Museum and Archives Learning Resource Centre

Indraprastha College is the only college to have its own Archives, established in 2006. The Archives was expanded into Museum and Archives Learning Resource Centre as a step towards facilitating the efforts of researchers, scholars and all those who explore issues around gender and education and the history of the city of Delhi. It was inaugurated by Prof. Romila Thapar, Professor Emerita, JNU and Shri Narain Prasad, Chairman, Governing Body on 26 August, 2015 followed by an inaugural lecture by Prof. Janaki Nair, JNU. Located in the Extension Wing of the College Library, the Museum and Archives is an attempt to capture the history and the cultural and political ethos of the College. It is a testament to the history of the College and its transition over time to a modern, progressive institution of liberal learning.

The Archives is enabled with QR code to access information related to display. A heritage calendar comprising the ‘firsts’ of the College was released. It is proposed that a calendar on archival themes and material be produced every year till the centenary of the College.

Translation and Translation Studies Centre

As part of its visionary effort, Indraprastha College has set up a Translation and Translation Studies Centre on the terrace wing of the College Library. The Centre was inaugurated on 1 March, 2015 and the students’ translation journal CODE was released before a distinguished panel of eminent writers in Hindi and English of national and international repute. A follow up event of the Centre was a talk by Mr. Ajmal Kamal, editor of ‘Aaj’, the Pakistan Daily, on ‘Problems of Hindi and Urdu in Translation’. Translation as an activity promoted by the College to stimulate student interest and engagement with both language and cultural diversity is one of the College’s latest success stories. This activity has cut across departments to evoke wide ranging student participation. Other events at the Centre include a lecture by Prof. Harish Trivedi, renowned translation theorist, on ‘The World of Translation: Translation and the World’. A workshop was held on ‘Strategies of Translation’ by Dr. Prabhat Ranjan. In collaboration with ‘Katha’, an orientation program on ‘Translation and Media’ and a workshop on ‘Writing for Children’ were organized.
