UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO CEAE DEPARTMENT
FACULTY MEETING MINUTES
Date February 6, 2013 Time 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Facilitator Keith Molenaar Scribe Morris Location ECCE 1B41 Subject Bi-Weekly Meeting Attendees See Attached Key Points discussed No. Topic Highlights
1 College Overview • Rob Davis gave an update on the college. Student enrollment is intended to grow 5000 to 6000 by 2020. The budget will grow to facilitate the student growth. Applications have gone up 60% in previous years and it continues to grow. With overall industry growth along with large number of retirements anticipated in the next 10-15 years, there will be a large need for more engineers. There are a few new undergraduate (general engineering, BA in computer science) and graduate (telecom, architectural, environmental, material science, biomedical) degrees being contemplated/created/offered. Regarding space, the new biosciences building houses CHEM engineering and the space in the engineering center has been repurposed. We’ve requested the Fleming space for a collaborative space. A new aerospace facility is being proposed. Classroom updates are needed and Rob to determine status of upcoming scope and funding.
2 Faculty Evaluations • Rob Davis gave an update on faculty evaluations. The new evaluation provides room for more qualitative aspects. Scoring will be qualitative, such as “meets expectations”, “exceeds expectations”, etc. The raise process will be based at the department level using the available pool and merit.
3 Environmental Engineering
• Rob Davis noted that EVEN has grown significantly from 50 to 200 students. There is discussion whether to spin off a new department, administer it within the CEAE department or enhance the program approach.
4 Research Update • John Crimaldi provided a presentation regarding his research, reference the attached slideshow.
5 Position Updates • Reference the attached update from Keith Molenaar (2/6/13) regarding a few changes to Amanda, Erin and Christina’s roles.
