universal design for learning
TRANSCRIPT
Objectives1. Develop an understanding of universal
design for learning (UDL) 2.Understand how universal design for
learning applies to educational settings
3. Demonstrate how UDL can be used to differentiate instruction

Everyone acts upon material differently
• Tools to help learners organize information • Multiple pathways to demonstrate
knowledge and understanding
Multiple means of engagement

Focus on effort, motivation and improvement
• Learner choice • Opportunities for learners to explore their
own context • Options that enable everyone to work to
their ability
UDL is about construct relevance — focus on what is really important and ensure
that all learners can succeed and do their best.
What is important?

UDL and assessment1. Set goals. 2. Allow multiple paths toward mastery 3. Realize that differences among learners
are present, recognized or not
What have been some victories as well as challenges faced by African
Americans in their struggle for access to educational opportunities?
Prepare a project that responds to the prompt.
Some potential projects include:• A five minute long video documenting a current or
past struggle faced by African Americans • Working in a small group, prepare a 20 minute
presentation • A one act play • Something of your choosing
You are developing a training module for sales people at your company to introduce
a new CRM (customer relationship management) tool.
Create a module using Articulate that:• Explains the business case, data best practices • Allow people with comfort using computers to
practice • Allow more experiences users to skip/test out of
what they don’t need • Promotes learner choice. • Make it easy to re-watch.
