Thanks to all of you, we are indeed healing, creating, and thriving. We have had inspiring and thought-provoking speak- ers, including some of our very own congregants, as well as amazing musicians, classes, workshops, Movie Nights, and a Healing Fair. We could not do any of this without the help of our many volunteers. We do appreciate you. Many people com- ment on the warmth and light they feel when they enter Unity of Santa Rosa. It is due to each and every one of you. I have also been using these personal affirmations: “I am full of joy and gratitude now that I am healing, and my relationships are loving and accepting. And I am so happy and grateful now that I am expressing and creating, and I am so prosperous that I live well and give freely.” More often than not this is what shows up in my life. We know that we create our experiences through our thinking and our hearts. This is one of our basic Unity principles. Fortunately, as Rev. Eric Butterworth said, “Grace, the divine favor, the activity of God’s love, works for us constantly.” When we miss the mark, we do not have to experi- ence all the effects of our negative thinking. Maybe you’ve noticed that Unity has made Eric Butterworth’s “Discover the Power Within You” the theme for 2012. I was pleased to see this, since this is one of my favorite books of all time and it changed my life. I’ll close with an- other quote from Rev. Butterworth: “Remember God is in you as the ocean is in the wave. Dear Friends of Unity,

“We are full of joy and gratitude now that Unity of Santa Rosa is healing and creating and thriv-ing.” This is one version of an affirmation fellow Board members and I have used since we took the Prosperity Plus class last summer. Thanks to all of you, we are indeed healing, creating, and thriving. I have also been using these personal affirmations: “I am full of joy and gratitude now that I am healing, and my relationships are loving and accepting. NEW CLASS!

“Ten Things To Do When Your Life Falls Apart”

Wednesdays June 6—July 18th

(no meeting on July 4th)

Taught by Rev. Alyzsa Van Til

Although Daphne Kingma wrote this book for our difficult times, I found her ideas very helpful for the aging process. She says, “Difficulties teach us that we’re not in control...and are profound opportunities for emotional healing and spiritual development.”

Together, we will begin to recognize that it’s time for deeper, soul-level solutions that can only come from within ourselves.

Also included in the book are great soul-searching questions to journal with at the end of each chapter.

Please sign up in the social Hall so we can have books available for you.

Rev. Alyzsa Van Til formerly taught Bible Interpretation at Unity School for Religious Studies, now known as Unity Insti-tute. Since then she has served two churches in the West Central Region: Unity in Clearlake and Unity Palo Alto Community Church as Education Minister. She has recently retired as minis-ter at Unity of Brookings, Oregon. In her retirement, Rev. Alyzsa is focusing on Mysticism in all religions where she has noted that all agree.

The Men’s Group and the Women’s Group are joining together to coordinate a

11:00am*

7821 Eastside Rd, Healdsburg, CA 95448

Make sure to bring your favorite potluck dish to share. Unity will provide utensils, cups, plates, and fun games!

*There is a $6 parking requirement, so we

MOVIE NIGHTS May 2012 Unity of Santa Rosa presents

Spiritual Exploration Series

Thursday Evenings in May 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Join us for community and thought provoking films to stimulate dialog and ideas. Free admission, donations accepted, refreshments, we’ll spend the

evening exploring some provocative spiritual ideas.

May 3 ~ Thrive —2011 Created by an heir of the Gamble family (Proctor & Gamble), you will either love or not love this controversial documentary that portends to explain the hidden agenda behind many of our social and economic systems today. Solutions are presented by thinkers like Deepak Chopra, David Icke, Steven Greer, Edgar Mitchell, Nasseim Harremin, John Perkins and Catherine Fitts.

May 10 ~ Fierce Grace —2001 documentary about Ram Dass, author of the classic bestseller Be Here Now. The film weaves vivid archival footage from hippiedom's glory days with intimate glimpses of Ram Dass today, as he continues to remake his life since suffering from a stroke. He is using this uninvited challenge as a tool for spiritual transformation, learning to help others face issues of aging, death, and dying.

May 17 ~ Hildegard von Bingen – In Portrait —Beautiful 2008 eclec-tic collection on the life and work of the 12th-century saint, Hildegard of Bingen—poet, prophet, activist, musician, artist, mystic. We’ll explore a segment of her operatic production Ordo Virtutem (Ritual of Virtues). The documentary will include a 45 minute conversation with Matthew Fox.

May 24 ~ The Happy Movie —What really makes humans happy? Roko Belic directs this 2011 exploration of happiness as the most valuable hu-man emotion. This movie is immensely uplifting, a surprisingly practical and down-to-earth documentary on the nature of happiness and how to increase happiness in life.

May 31 ~ Oh My God —Hugh Jackman, Ringo Starr, Seal, and a number of other celebrities and regular people offer their views on God in this 2009 documentary, hearing from a variety of religious persuasions including atheists, Muslims, Hindus, and Christians.

What:

When:

Where:

Why:

A time to connect and have fun with Unity friends!

Parties are held July through December. Get your party ideas turned in by Sunday, May 20th. Buy tickets for all parties on Party Sunday, June 24th.

Tickets purchased at Unity of Santa Rosa. Parties held at individual homes/places determined by each party-giver.

For fun and fundraising, building community and creating prosperity!

A booklet of all the parties available will be created for your review at the beginning of June. Then on June 24th, Party Sunday, you will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to parties through the end of the year. These will be hosted and attended by you! This is how it works: 1. Think of a creative party that you want to throw. It can be a simple dinner in your home, a Greek Festi-val, a children’s gathering in the park, a wine tour, a weekend at a summer home that you own in Hawaii, a High Tea, a Halloween Costume Party, a Christmas Craft Class, a night of dinner and theater, and just about anything else you can think of. The party can be anywhere you choose. 2. Decide what date and time your party is going to be. (Any date between July and December.) Please avoid Sunday afternoons, unless you check in with the church, and the fourth Saturday morning of each month. 3. Then choose how many people you can have at your party and the price per ticket. (If it’s at your house and you can only hold 30, then that would be the limit). This is YOUR choice. Determine the price of the ticket. What do you think people will be willing to pay? (For example, if you are going first class for 10 people, would they pay $50 or $100 a plate? Or would $20 a person be more reasonable? If you join with several others to charter a wine tour, what would be a good fair market value for people to pay?) 4. Then fill out one of our Party Program Registration forms and turn it into the office. Forms are due May 20th. This is a great FUN-raiser because it creates community throughout the year, and you get to connect with new friends. It is a FUND-raiser because it is a tax-deductible donation to Unity of Santa Rosa. Those who throw the parties are doing it at their own expense, but the fair market value can be considered a tax-deductible donation. People then buy tickets to attend however many parties they want, and that money goes to the church. Throwing a party and/or attending a party, benefits Unity of Santa Rosa and is a win/win because giving or purchasing a party is tax-deductible.

Remember to submit your party idea on the Party Registration Form by May 20th!

ON-GOING GROUPS

THE UNITY MESSENGER

UniTrade

UniTrade is a business oriented program that connects business providers in our church community to users of their services. In the process, the “trader” will give a sales discount for services or products to the user. They will also tithe a portion of the transac-tion to our church. The service providers will get promotion throughout our Unity circle. The purpose of UniTrade is to raise funds for our church, build relationships, and help promote busi-nesses within our community. UniTrade is a win-win transaction for all participants.

Here is how it works. Members in our church community agree to provide their business goods or services to others with a spe-cific discount. The user of the service gets a savings on their pur-chase and the trader then tithes a portion of the transaction to the church. The nature of the discount and the tithe are at the discretion of the trader. The discount may be a coupon or a per-centage off the regular price.

If you are a business/service trader, please visit our website to get a registration form to register your business and discount. These businesses will be advertised on our website and in a printed flyer available at church.

Look for the UniTrade flyer at church and on the website to see who and what is being offered and the corresponding discount. This month, we are listing the UniTraders here so you can see what it is all about. More UniTraders are adding weekly. And re-member, each trader tithes a portion of the transaction to our church.

She has been in the office with Liz during the last couple weeks of April to learn about what we do around here and as of May she will be your main contact if you call the office. Kristi has a background work-ing for non-profits and has excellent office skills. She is also a yoga instructor and enjoys spending

time outdoors. If you haven’t met her yet, please feel free to call or come by and introduce yourself.

New artwork is gracing our walls! Botanicals by Nancy J Ballard Nancy holds the status of MASTER ARTIST of Botani-cal Illustration with the San Francisco Botanical Gar-den Society and the Strybing Arboretum. Nancy is the Founder of Black Tie Botanicals, an organization she created in an effort to raise consciousness about the fragility of our ecosystem through educational exhibits. With persistent observation, ordinary plants

are transformed into focused illustrations of the plants’ life cycle, reminding us of their amazing, intricate and essential place in our universe. Nancy is the sister of our very own Elizabeth Cupp.

YOUTH EDUCATION Our youth meet every Sunday at 10:30am under the loving direction of our Sunday School teachers Merrie Rivera and Alannah Williams-Oliver. The YE room is set up for childcare and youth classes. Your children will not want to leave!

PRAYER MINISTRY Prayer Ministry is the name for the greater um-brella that includes all prayer activities in the church. Chaplains are those who have received special training to pray with individuals after Sunday Services or as needed, and to assist in various ways such as bringing the prayer box forward on Sundays, conducting home or hospital visitations, participating in special services, and all aspects of Prayer Ministry. Other participants in the Prayer Min-istry may be involved in various ways: Praying for others quietly from home, praying with others in a Prayer Circle, leading medita-tions, writing prayer letters, etc. Prayer is the most important ac-tivity we can engage in for our spiritual growth. To find out more about our Prayer Ministry, you can contact Randi Vessels at [email protected]. Prayer Support: Day or night, if you need immediate prayer sup-port, we encourage you to contact Silent Unity at 1-800-NOW-PRAY (669-7729).

MUSIC Unity of Santa Rosa has a talented pianist Guy Richards. Our music director is Jeanette Brizee. She and Randi Vessels are our song leaders. We continue to invite wonderful musicians. For an up-to-date list of musicians, please visit our website at www.UnityofSantaRosa.org
