In 1991, United Way of Miami-Dade established The Tocqueville Society to honor those individuals who demonstrated an extraordinary sense of philanthropy with remarkably high levels of giving.

Named after French historian Alexis de Tocqueville who recognized, celebrated and immortalized the true spirit of volunteerism that lives in America’s heart, our Tocqueville Society brings together a distinguished group of individuals who share a keen devotion to our community and to its future generations.

By becoming a Tocqueville Society member, you’re affirming your leadership and deep level of commitment to transforming lives and bringing lasting change to our neighbors in need. As a member, you’ll join nearly 800 of Miami’s most influential business, civic and philanthropic leaders, 72 of whom are La Table Ronde de un Million de Dollars members. Among that elite group of generous donors, ten belong to our La Table Ronde de Cinq Millions de Dollars.

Membership in the Tocqueville Society is granted to individuals who contribute at least $10,000 annually to United Way of Miami-Dade.

Combined, the society’s investment amounts to 40% of United Way of Miami-Dade’s annual fund raising campaign. With lower overhead costs than the State average, we do more, with less to improve people’s lives and solve some of the biggest challenges facing our community.

Why give to United Way?5 powerful reasons to give. One empowering outcome: A stronger Miami

We’re local and invest in programs right in your own community

You call the shots – volunteers like you examine the needs of the community and decide the most effective ways to tackle them

Your voice is heard and helps to secure much needed funding for local programs and policies that support children and families

We’re accountable and adhere to strict governance practices which include volunteer oversight

Your gift goes farther through matching grants, corporate, in-kind gifts and more, meaning every $1 you give turns into $2.16 worth of help for your neighbors

Together, let’s fight for a stronger Miami

Since 1924, United Way of Miami-Dade has been an innovative force in the community, successfully responding to emerging needs and transforming people’s lives. Today, we continue that mission by forging partnerships with hundreds of individuals and organizations that share a collective vision that we can build a stronger Miami by making improvements in the areas of education, financial stability and health.

We believe that a community where all children have the opportunity to learn and thrive, where families are financially secure and where people can live their lives to the fullest because they have the good health to do so creates a place where we all can prosper today and for generations to come.
