A search committee will conduct a comprehensive search to identify and attract top candidates for the successor of Mary Lou Young, who announced that she will retire from United Way after eight years of service. Mary Lou has demonstrated impressive leadership skills and community kindness since she joined United Way in 2009. She led the transformation of our United Way into a collaborative community leader that has been a driving force for social change. Under Mary Lou’s leadership the organization saw substantial growth with the annual campaign reaching unprecedented heights from $45.5 million in 2009 to over $60 million in 2016, including the successful integration of the United Way in Waukesha County. Prior to joining United Way, Mary Lou headed Global Community Relations for Rockwell Automation where she managed Rockwell’s philanthropic budget, which invested in community development and technology education worldwide. Mary Lou retired from Rockwell Automation in 2009. The search committee will comprise United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County Officers of the Board, including Chair Greg Marcus, Vice Chair Cory Nettles, Treasurer Bruce McDonald, Secretary Lynn Sprangers, Immediate Past Chair David Lubar, and Labor Council Representative Sheila Cochran. “Since July of 2009, Mary Lou has been the driving force behind so many successful impact strategies and partnerships that exist in our community,” said Greg Marcus, president and CEO of The Marcus Corporation and current chairman of the United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County Board. “Our search committee will look for a strong, vibrant candidate for President and CEO. Someone who can build on the success of the organization, and lead strategic and collaborative development to advance the mission in the years ahead.”
