UNITED UNTIED Latest news Latest news Even though the 2013 season has officially ended for most teams, it hasn’t for us! We seem to have been busier now the regular racing is over than we were during the rest of the year! In mid-November we made our way to Macau for the City of Dreams Macau GT Cup. This was our fourth consecutive year of competing at what is described as one of the most challenging and dangerous race circuits in the world, and we had scored podium finishes in our three previous attempts. Our fourth year turned out to be no different. Danny Watts put the McLaren on the podium with a sensational second place and Richard Meins put in a thrilling performance, finishing sixth from a qualifying position of 20th. We are also pleased to announce that Mark Patterson and Matt Bell will be familiar United faces in the British GT paddock next year, after the pair committed to another full year of racing with the team in 2014. Read more about the story on page three. Finally, most of our boys have been sporting moustaches throughout the month as they take part in Movember and help raise awareness and vital funds in support of men’s health. United Autosports have scored their fourth consecutive podium at the City of Dreams Macau GT Cup.

Danny Watts brought the McLaren home in second place and Richard Meins finished the race in sixth, continuing the team’s 100 per cent recordof finishing on the podium at the international event.

Both drivers drove stunning races round the notorious street circuit at what was the 60th running of the Macau Grand Prix. Danny made his waythrough from a qualifying position of eighth, as he managed to make up places while others were fighting among themselves. Richard stormed hisway through the field from a 20th place qualifying spot to 11th on the first lap aloneas the safety car was deployed after a Porsche hit the wall. As the safety car came in he made up a further two places to ninth, then fought his way through to a finishingspot of sixth.

It was also a great result for the Gulf Marine and NobleGroup sponsored McLaren MP4-12C GT3 car having bothcars finishing in the top six.

What is your job? I have been the number one mechanic for Zak forthe past three years, both in the McLaren and theAudi. I have also been number one mechanic on theMacau cars for two out of the four races the teamhave done there

How long have you worked at UnitedAutosports? Since the start of the 2011 season, but I have knownRichard since 2006 when I first worked for him

What would you be doing if you didn’t work forUnited Autosports?Probably something else in racing

What do you get up to outside work? I like playing and watching football, going runningwith my dog, playing with my bike, watchingmotorsport and doing my hair!

How did you get into racing? I did a motorsport degree, then was lucky enoughto get a work placement at Team LNT. I then startedworking for Ginetta cars and finally moved to United.

What is your nickname and why?girly boy (because of my hair) or Scaifey

What is it that makes you passionate aboutmotorsport?The involvement of being a number one. I like howclose you work with the driver and engineer. Also,the competitiveness to win – I hate losing.

What has been your funniest racing experienceso far?Getting stuck in a lift in Valencia and having to bepulled out by my boss – I was in there about anhour!

This car was campaigned by Vel’s Parnelli Jones Racing in1974 and 1975 and was raced by Mario Andretti. Andrettihad six pole positions and won three races in 1974 atWatkins Glen, Elkhart Lake and Riverside and finishedsecond in the championship. In 1975, Andretti had eight polepositions and won four races at Mosport, Elkhart Lake,Laguna Seca and Riverside and again finished second in the Formula 5000 Championship. In 1975, Andretti also competed in his first full season of the Formula OneWorld Championship.

United Autosports can confirm that Mark Patterson and Matt Bell will be returning to the team for the 2014 British GT Championship.

Last season’s championship runners-up are aiming for the top spot in 2014 in their Audi R8 LMS ultra, after missing out on the 2013 title by just 1.5 points.

Having been consistently in the top 10 throughout 2013, they topped off the year with a stunning win in the season finale at Donington, promotingthem to second in the championship. That result was the team’s fourth podium finish of the year.

Mark, who was born in South Africa but lives in the US, and Matt, who is from Newcastle, have been with United Autosports since the team’s first yearof racing in 2010, although 2013 was the first year they partnered each other for a full season.

The first race of the 2014 British GT Championship will be at Oulton Park on 19th-20th April
