Samuel NicholasSamuel Nicholas was then appointed the first Commandant of the Marine Corps.

The First MissionIn 1776, the Marines conducted their first amphibious raid against Fort Nassau in the Bahamas. Successfully capturing large quantities of gunpowder the British were using for battle against the 13 Colonies.

The battles continueSince its founding, the Marines have taken part in numerous significant battles, ensuring independence for the United States.
