SCHEDULE OF POINTS FOR DIVISION 8

EFFECTIVE MAY, 2005

The points toward a Championship shall be awarded to the WINNERS DOG andWINNERS BITCH of each breed or variety based on the actual number of dogs or bitchescompeting in that breed or variety.

If the dog designated Winner Dog or Winners Bitch is also awarded Best Of Breed OrVariety , the dogs of both sexes that have been entered for Best of Breed or Varietycompetition and that have been defeated in such competition, shall be counted in additionto the dogs that competed in regular classes for its sex in calculating championship points.

If the dog designated Winners Dog or Winners Bitch is also awarded Best Of OppositeSex To Best Of Breed Or Variety, the dogs of its own sex that have been entered for Bestof Breed or Variety competition that have been defeated in competition for Best of OppositeSex, shall be counted in addition to the dogs that competed in the regular classes for its sexin calculating championship points.

After points have been computed for Winners Dog and Winners Bitch subject to theabove two stipulations, the dog awarded Best of Winners shall be credited with the numberof points calculated for Winners Dog or Winners Bitch, whichever is greater.

In counting the number of eligible dogs in competition, a dog that is disqualified, or thatis dismissed, excused or ordered from the ring by the judge, or from which all awards arewithheld shall not be included. Any dog which shall have won Fifteen Points shall becomea Champion of Record, if six or more of said points shall have been won at two shows witha rating of three or more championship points each and under two different judges, andsome one or more of the balance of said points shall have been won under some otherjudge or judges than the two judges referred to above.

Division 8 is comprised of: Colorado, Idaho,Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming.

General AppearanceThe Australian Shepherd is an intelligent working dog of strong herding andguarding instincts. He is a loyal companion and has the stamina to work all day. Heis well balanced, slightly longer than tall, of medium size and bone, with coloring thatoffers variety and individuality. He is attentive and animated, lithe and agile, solidand muscular without cloddiness. He has a coat of moderate length and coarseness.He has a docked or natural bobbed tail.

Size, Proportion, SubstanceSize--The preferred height for males is 20-23 inches, females 18-21 inches. Quality isnot to be sacrificed in favor of size. Proportion--Measuring from the breastbone torear of thigh and from top of the withers to the ground the Australian Shepherd isslightly longer than tall. Substance--Solidly built with moderate bone. Structure in themale reflects masculinity without coarseness. Bitches appear feminine without beingslight of bone.

HeadClean Run

The Head is clean cut, strong and dry. Overall size should be in proportion to thebody. The muzzle is equal in length or slightly shorter than the back skull. Viewedfrom the side the topline of the back skull and muzzle form parallel planes, dividedby a moderate, well-defined stop. The muzzle tapers little from base to nose and isrounded at the tip.Expression --Showing attentiveness and intelligence, alert and eager. Gaze shouldbe keen but friendly. Eyes are brown, blue, amber or any variation or combinationthereof, including flecks and marbling. Almond shaped, not protruding nor sunken.The blue merles and blacks have black pigmentation on eye rims. The red merles andreds have liver (brown) pigmentation on eye rims. Ears are triangular, of moderatesize and leather, set high on the head. At full attention they break forward and over,or to the side as a rose ear. Prick ears and hanging ears are severe faults.Skull Top flat to slightly domed. It may show a slight occipital protuberance. Lengthand width are equal. Moderate well-defined stop. Muzzle tapers little from base tonose and is rounded at the tip.Nose--Blue merles and blacks have black pigmentation on the nose (and lips). Redmerles and reds have liver (brown) pigmentation on the nose (and lips). On themerles it is permissible to have small pink spots; however, they should not exceed25% of the nose on dogs over one year of age, which is a serious fault. Teeth--A fullcomplement of strong white teeth should meet in a scissors bite or may meet in alevel bite. Disqualifications--Undershot. Overshot greater than 1/8 inch. Loss ofcontact caused by short center incisors in an otherwise correct bite shall not bejudged undershot. Teeth broken or missing by accident shall not be penalized.

Neck, Topline, BodyNeck is strong, of moderate length, slightly arched at the crest, fitting well into theshoulders. Topline--Back is straight and strong, level and firm from withers to hipjoints. The croup is moderately sloped. Chest is not broad but is deep with thelowest point reaching the elbow. The ribs are well sprung and long, neither barrelchested nor slab-sided. The underline shows a moderate tuck-up. Tail is straight,docked or naturally bobbed, not to exceed four inches in length.

ForequartersShoulders--Shoulder blades are long, flat, fairly close set at the withers and well laidback. The upper arm, which should be relatively the same length as the shoulderblade, attaches at an approximate right angle to the shoulder line with forelegsdropping straight, perpendicular to the ground. Legs straight and strong. Bone is

strong, oval rather than round. Pastern is medium length and very slightly sloped. Frontdewclaws may be removed. Feet are oval, compact with close knit, well arched toes.Pads are thick and resilient.

HindquartersThe width of the hindquarters is equal to the width of the forequarters at the shoulders.The angulation of the pelvis and upper thigh corresponds to the angulation of theshoulder blade and upper arm, forming an approximate right angle. Stifles are clearlydefined, hock joints moderately bent. The hocks are short, perpendicular to the groundand parallel to each other when viewed from the rear. Rear dewclaws must be removed.Feet are oval, compact with close knit, well arched toes. Pads are thick and resilient.

CoatHair is of medium texture, straight to wavy, weather resistant and of medium length. Theundercoat varies in quantity with variations in climate. Hair is short and smooth on thehead, ears, front of forelegs and below the hocks. Backs of forelegs and britches aremoderately feathered. There is a moderate mane and frill, more pronounced in dogs thanin bitches. Non-typical coats are severe faults.

ColorBlue merle, black, red merle, red-all with or without white markings and/or tan (copper)points, with no order of preference. The hairline of a white collar does not exceed thepoint of the withers at the skin. White is acceptable on the neck (either in part or as a fullcollar), chest, legs, muzzle underparts, blaze on head and white extension fromunderpart up to four inches, measuring from a horizontal line at the elbow. White on thehead should not predominate, and the eyes must be fully surrounded by color andpigment. Merles characteristically become darker with increasing age. DisqualificationsWhite body splashes, which means white on body between withers and tail, on sidesbetween elbows and back of hindquarters in all colors.

GaitThe Australian Shepherd has a smooth, free and easy gait. He exhibits great agility ofmovement with a well-balanced, ground covering stride. Fore and hind legs movestraight and parallel with the center line of the body. As speed increases, the feet (frontand rear) converge toward the center line of gravity of the dog while the back remainsfirm and level. The Australian Shepherd must be agile and able to change direction oralter gait instantly.

TemperamentThe Australian Shepherd is an intelligent, active dog with an even disposition; he is goodnatured, seldom quarrelsome. He may be somewhat reserved in initial meetings. FaultsAny display of shyness, fear or aggression is to be severely penalized.

DisqualificationsUndershot. Overshot greater than 1/8 inch.White body splashes, which means white on body between withers and tail, on sidesbetween elbows and back of hindquarters in all colors.
