A Jordanian company, United Cable Industries Co. (UCIC) is a shareholding company, located in Mafraq, approximately 50km away from Amman. Situated at their plant which is 27,000 m2, built over 160,000 m2 of land, the business benefits from a capital of about $57 million.

He points out that while cables are not the most extravagant of products, they are essential and that the range of products found at UCIC are all vetted and checked to the international
standards including BS, VDE, IEC, ASTM and DIN. “We offer Low Voltage Power Cables with copper and aluminium
conductors,” he says”, Arial Bunched Cables(ABC), Control Cables and overhead transmission lines or OHTL.” In addition to the domestic wires, which include Single Wires and Flexible Cables.
Founded in the year 2007, UCIC commenced as a prime manufacturer of power cables in 2009 specialising in the manufacturing of LV power cables. The core activities include the above mentioned domestic cables of building wires and flat flexible cables, low voltage power cables and control cables 0.6/1kV, ABC cables and high tension overhead transmission lines of HTOTL, soon; Solar Cables for photovoltaic systems and Fire Resistant Cables will be included in UCIC products range.
Servicing such a high number of varying industries, UCIC are in the enviable position where they have a host of business sectors requiring cabling and while these sectors themselves may suffer peaks and troughs, Bashar explains that UCIC has found the market happily buoyant.
Around 250 staff work at UCIC and Bashar explains that according to labour law standards, UCIC provides full training to all of their employees, “It is vital that we equip our staff with the right tools and expertise to do their jobs so that we can offer our customers the very best products and services possible.”
The training covers not only the technical aspects of the job but also productive, management and public safety.
“Our staff are the business’ ambassador’s to the public,” Bashar explains, “They have to be professional and accountable.”
As such, individual staff development is essential for their company, as he says; “UCIC provides training courses for all of our staff for all sections with internal promotion being a preference and staff safety and wellbeing a priority.”
It is a well known business law that looking after your employees is the best way to look after your customers and Bashar says that they have a focus on getting their cables into new areas and markets, which is an ongoing endeavour, “You must always be looking to get your foot into new areas because new opportunities are to be found there,” he says.
Partnering with the best companies has played a major role in the business as Bashar highlights, “There are three main things in a business; the consumer, the employee and the partner,”

Bashar adds that environmental consciousness is a focus for Heinze and Streng, who seek to always develop their products with a focus on energy conservation and consolidation of orders and the use of recyclable packaging material to contribute to the environment.
A pragmatic approach to the future has kept UCIC moving in the right direction and the immediate strategy is to continue providing the best quality products tomorrow but ensure the finest quality working today.
“We are also planning to add to our products to complete the LV cable range,” Bashar says, “So we are adding fire resistance cable and solar DC cable.”
These new products will snatch new opportunities and open up new markets for the business as well as setting the tone for the future.
“It’s important to think big but work moderate specially these days which witness political and economic instability ,” he says, “Business is about building in little steps and being meticulous with detail.”
