  • These volcanoes expel large clouds of toxic gases, burning pyroclasts and ash that can bury entire towns. They can also result in extremely hot pyroclastic surges that burn everything in their path. They are very dangerous volcanoes. They are usually tall and cone-shaped. Sometimes, the top of the volcano collapses during an eruption. It gets rebuilt over time by less violent eruptions. Examples of volcanoes with explosive eruptions are Mount Vesuvius and Krakatoa.Volcanoes with explosive eruptionsUNIT 7Types of eruptions and volcanoesNatural Science 2. Secondary Education

  • These volcanoes expel slow-flowing, liquid lava. They are not very dangerous unless the lava flows are very fast or toxic gases are emitted. Usually, knowing the path of the lava is enough to prevent damage from occurring. These volcanoes are shield-shaped. They have gradual slopes and a very wide base due to the way the lava spreads out along their slopes. The Hawaiian Islands were create as a result of this type of volcano.Volcanoes with non-explosive eruptionsUNIT 7Types of eruptions and volcanoesNatural Science 2. Secondary Education
