A planet is an object that travels around, or orbits a particular star.
The Earth is one of nine planets that orbit the Sun. Together they make up our Solar System.

EARTH’S ROTATION• As each planet moves, it also spins around
on its own axis (an imaginary line running through the planet).

Earth is the third planet from the Sun. It is the only known planet with the right conditions
to support living things, although scientists are searching for life on other planets.

The Earth's distance from the Sun means that it
receives just the right amount of heat and light.
Its combination of gases enables plants, animals
and people to breathe, and it is warm enough for
water to exist as a liquid.

All these things are essential for life
on Earth.
