Three key factors when thinking about how to recycle The

    3Rs:

Recycling is very important as waste has negative impacton the natural environment.

Harmful chemicals and greenhouse gasses are releasedfrom rubbish in landfill sites. Recycling helps to reducethe pollution caused by waste.

Habitat destruction and global warming are some theaffects caused by deforestation. Recycling reduces the

need for raw materials so that the rainforests can be

    Recycle - Wood

Type of wood can currently be recycled:

Wood can often be reused to make other items, such as a bird table for your garden.

Wood can often be added to your compost heap, such as sawdust and wood shavings.

What happens to the wood collected?

Its sent to a merchant who sorts the material into

Sewage is characterized in terms of its physical, chemical

and biological composition. Sewage Physical Properties : Colour, Odor, Solids,

    Temperature.

The sewage has to be treated before discharged into the

rivers. The constituents in the sewage could decrease theriver water quality.

Sediment, clogs the gills of fish, blocks light transmissionand increases ocean water temperature can harmingaquatic life and disturbing the food chain.

Air pollution is the introduction of chemicals, particulate

matter, or biological materials that cause harm or discomfortto humans or other living organisms, or damages the naturalenvironment into the atmosphere.

The air quality in Malaysia is described in terms ofAirPollutant Index (API).

The API is an indicator of air quality and was developedbased on scientific assessment to indicate in an easilyunderstood manner, the presence of pollutants and itsimpact on health.Advanced Construction System

Noise pollution (or environmental noise) isdispleasing human, animal or machine-created soundthat disrupts the activity or balance of human oranimal life. The word noise comes from the Latinword nausea meaning seasickness.

Section 23 under The Environmental Quality Act 1974stipulates that : No person shall, unless licensed,

emit or cause or permit to be emitted any noisegreater in volume, intensity or quality incontravention of the acceptable conditions specifiedunder section 21.

    e) Noise Pollution Control Piling works is common job for the

    construction of multi-storey building,and bridge.

The noise pollution happen during thepiling works.

Some of the complaint of the pilingworks are neglected because of thenoise is not consistent.

The exposure to the piling works fordays at a long time could lead to the

hearing problems. Therefore the construction workers

have to make a proper piling schedulein order to control the noise pollution.

Construction workers spend most of their time atconstruction site. Therefore it is the job of theconstruction workers to ensure that they have a cleanenvironment.

Under direct supervision of a mentoring Field Technicianor Project Manager, construction workers assist in carryingout Site Management and/or Waste Management field-

related activities such as sampling, surveying, collectionand measuring etc. This involves collecting informationregarding the presence and effects of pollutants in air, water and soil of the construction site.

q Specific duties of construction workers and environmental

technologies could include:A. Field sampling: air, water and soil

    B. Solid, liquid and air treatment methods and waste minimization

    C. Hazardous goods and waste handling methods

    D. WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Management Information Systems)implementation and compliance evaluation

    E. Emergency planning and spill response methods

    F. Recycling and waste minimization program design

    G. Environmental issue analysis and environmental law and ethics

    H. Developing and implementing air, water or soil quality measurement plans.

    I. Taking inventory of and quantifying sources of locally-generated pollution

    J. Using different laboratory techniques and instruments to prepare andanalyze samples.

    K. Preparing reports of lab results for internal and external use.
