Performance Notes
A tarantella is an Italian folk dance with its origins in the Middle Ages. The music has aquick tempo and is usually written in a 6/8 meter. One tradition says that the tarantelladance was used to ward off the effects of the bite of a tarantula spider. The music for atarantella begins and ends in a minor key, and sometimes moves to the parallel major key inthe middle section.
When singing this piece, keep the tempo lively, but be sure the words are clearlypronounced. Imagine dancers in couples spinning and turning wildly to the music. Add atambourine to bring some variety to the music.
