What distinguishes my work from that of other designers
is I combine the unique sensibility of Southeast Asia
with the tools and techniques of Western graphic de-
sign. Being Vietnamese, I grew up absorbing the aes-
thetics and art of my culture and have journeyed to the
United States to extend my design skills in the Graduate
Graphic Design program at the Academy of Art in San
Francisco. Therefore, I now bring a distinct perspective
to the task of design that allows me to create original
works that reflect the richness of Asian art enhanced
by the technology and sophistication of Western design
principles.

Nowadays, films are one of the most
popular forms of entertainment with
the general public. The director often
develops the vision for a film, and car-
ries out this vision, to translate words
on a script into pictures on a screen
in order to produce the most influen-
tial films. The aim of this project was
to choose one film director and create
promotional pieces as well as a series
of products to promote a film festival.
Brian De Palma is known for his many
films, ranging from violent pictures to
Hitchcock-like thrillers.
One of his first films was the black–and–
white film. From there he completed many
movies, finding major success with the
controversial, ultra-violent film Scarface
(1983). After Scarface, De Palma made
two more movies before landing another
one of his now-classics: The Untouchables
(1987), starring his friend Robert de Niro in
the role of Chicago gangster Al Capone.
Brian De Palma is known for his many films, ranging
from violent pictures to Hitchcock-like thrillers. Dealy
pay back is the project and design’s driving force. The
purpose is to create a series of products to promote
this film festival.

Looking fantastic and beautiful is not
just comes from within your body. The
daily intake of whole grain cereal will
deliver amazing features. Eat for Beauty is
an advertisement to help the brand Vic-
toria’s Secret appeal to the customers

project was to create a freshing image
for Victoria’s Secret.
“Eat for Beauty” focuses on teaching
younger generations about how the food
they eat makes a big difference in the
way their body is shaped and formed. The
aim for this advertisement was to entice
customers to try some of the wonderful
whole grain foods available. Nevertheless
Victoria’s Secret make-up and beauty sup-

This project was intended to visually portray the bad
effects of noise on people by typography and graphic.
Graphic Design Portfolio PHAN TRONG BINH PROJECT 01 0 2 0 3 0 4 0 5 0 6 0 7 0 8 0 9
Noise has different negative influences
on people everyday as they interact with
the things in their surrounding environment.
The connection between people and
their noisy environments can affect their
mood. For example, in the cities, where
there is a lot of traffic from automo-
biles and motorcycles, the street noise
can cause sleep disruption hearing loss,
headaches, and stress, which can lead to
heart disease, in humans and animals.
Noise interferes with human activities at
home and work and is dangerous to
people’s health in various ways. In rural
areas, train and airplane noise can disturb
wildlife habits. This project was intended
to visually portray the bad effects of noise
on people by typography and graphic.

Love means pleasure. A deep emotional
enjoyment between people. When cou-
ples treat each other well, they delight
in each other. The destination of love is
marriage; it is wonderful when you are
ready to be married to someone you are
in love with.
Marriage is a result of true love and true
love does not know age, race, gender,
or ethnicity. True love is the same every-
where; it is a connection between two
honest hearts.
Marriage may take many forms: for exam-
ple, a union between one man and one
woman, or a union between a man and
another man, also known as a same-sex
marrige. A same-sex marriage is a term for
a legally or socially recognized marriage
between two people of the same sex.
The aim for this project was to create a
public book that could be used as a posi-
tive voice to vote for the right of same sex
marriage because marriage is a basic
human right everyone, including homo-
sexual people, deserve.
The aim for this project was to create a public book that
could be used as a positive voice to vote for the right
of same sex marriage because marriage is a result of true
love and true love does not know age, race, gender,
or ethnicity. True love is the same everywhere; it is a
connection between two honest hearts.

Music drives my imagination and gives
me a different perspective on life. ‘Only
Time’ is a song that was recorded, and
composed, by Irish singer, Enya. It was
first released in November of 2000.
According to the song, the singer conveys
the message that time controls every-
thing. The song is about love and time.
Even a song like this can have so much
meaning to someone, they would never
be able properly explain.
My idea for this project was to visualize
what inspires me creatively and emotion-
ally. I want to create a poster through the
use of images and typography. The post-
er will portray how we think time can not
only remove us from many situations and
relationships, but can also heal our broken
hearts, clean our tears in bad moments,
or just provide us with relaxation.

The countryside seems to have all of
God’s given gifts because there one can
find a pure environment, fresh air, clean
water, a clear blue sky, simple people,
and green cropland. People who live in the
countryside feel well because the envi-
ronment itself is fresher.
Life in the countryside is slower, less
noisy, and more relaxed than it is in the
city. Someone in the countryside has
the advantage of being able to more eas-
ily concentrate on basic human needs
because they have a healthier environment
for living and working.
In a countryside environment people
are more natural, more helpful, and
have a more loving community that is closer
to a true family.
Countryside living is ideal because it
offers friendship, privacy, romance and
adventure along with an ideal living and
working environment where every family
member can find an occupation in their
family business. The project was intend-
ed to visualize life in the countryside with
typography and images.

Cunningham is most known for her
stunning and sensual close-ups of flow-
ers. Their arrangements are created
spontaneously in a spirit of fun, albeit
with a solid sense of design, purity of
image, and clarity of detail as well as
pattern to recognize the form within the
object. The arrangement of the flowers
is almost identical; Cunningham makes
the texture of the flowers very evident,
almost making that the emphasis.
The leaves of the plants are a faint
background detail that keeps the eye
moving throughout the photo. She
keeps true to photographing the purity
and essence of the plant by keeping
the photo crisp and the fine lines and
texture evident.
The project was intended to add to the
intrigue and element of design found in
Cunningham’s beautiful photography.

Dong Ho printing is a kind of Vietnamese
folk printing which originated in Dong Ho
Village in Song Ho Commune, Thuan Thanh
District, Bac Ninh Province, Vietnam. Dong
Ho prints have about 300 years of history
in the north of Vietnam. The Dong Ho
paintings are printed by hand, each color
having its own printing block.
The printing paper is made of “dzo”, a
papyrus-like plant, bark fibre, and coated
with a thin layer of “diep”, oyster shell
dust, that gives the paper a typical, much
appraised, feeble-glittering texture.
Dong Ho woodblock printing was an
essential element in each Vietnamese
family during the Tet holiday.
Each print tells a story of historical sig-
nificance. The prints are used to carry on
the cultural history of Vietnam, passed
on at the welcoming of each Lunar New
Year to younger generations through
story telling.
Both their form, lines, color, and contents
suit spring time and bring out man’s
aspiration for a life of plenty and happi-
ness. They represent an original genre of
folk pictorial art, with a distinct national
identity and a centuries’ old tradition. The
traditional paintings reflect aspiration of
people for peace, prosperity and happiness.
Dong Ho, named for the village where it originated,
utilizes natural materials produced in time honored
methods by local artists. Living Legacy will preserve
Vietnamese woodblock printmaking tradition that
Dong Ho provides to the country’s cultural.

These paintings are take
from real life, about what
can be seen with one’s
own eyes (some of
these scenes exist until
today). The artisans
depict what they know
best: rural life in the Red
River plain. Farmer and
water buffalo resting.
There are even two birds
catching the ticks on the
water buffalo’s back.
Otherwise a boy playing
bamboo flute on a water
buffalo’s back is an image
representing “peaceful
rural life” in Vietnam.
happy family.
