Our students love having a chance to buy gifts for their families or teachers. Dear UES Families, Many of you know one of our UES families had a house fire last week. They are unable to return to their home and are faced with many challenges during this holiday season. We will be raising money for their family until our winter concert. Please help if you are able. Also, please note with money you are sending in that it is for the coin fundraiser as we also have the PTC Christmas raffle going on and I don’t want the two to get mixed up! Thank you for your support.

I have been working every spare moment on cataloging and covering new books. I'm making progress but there are still many more to go. I had our 6th graders each pick one book that they were anxious to have on the shelf and those are now ready:
The Glass Gauntlet, Book 2 of the Blood Guard Series by Carter Roy ( Action Adventure )The Ship of the Dead, Book 3 of the Magnus Chase Series by Rick Riordan ( Fantasy )The Fever Code, Book 5 of the Maze Runner Series by James Dasher ( Science Fiction )Mark of the Plague, Book 2 of the Blackthorn Key Series by Kevin Sands ( Historical Mystery ) Payback, Book 3 of the Masterminds Series by Gordon Korman ( Mystery )The War I Finally Won, Sequel to The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley ( Historical Fiction ) Siren's Secret, Book 4 of the Emily Windsnap Series by Liz Kessler ( Fantasy )Land of the Midnight Sun, Book 5 of the Emily Windsnap Series by Liz Kessler ( Fantasy )Auggie and Me Three Wonder Stories written from the perspectives of other Wonder characters: Julian, Plutot, and Shingaling by R.J. A Framed Novel,Book 2 by James Ponti ( Adventure/Mystery )Tangle of Knots by Lisa Graff author of Lost in the Sun ( Fantasy )One for Sorrow, A Ghost Story by Mary Downing Hahn ( Scary Historical Fiction )
Also ready for the shelf are the following: Dragonbreath Books 6,7,& 8 by Ursula Vernon to fill in the big gap in our series. ( Humorous ) 6. Revenge of the Horned Bunnies, 7. When Fairies Go Bad . 8. Nightmare of the Iguana.Mighty Jack and the Geniuses at the Bottom of the World by Bill Nye, ( Scientific Adventure )The next two Charlie Joe Jackson books in the "Guide to" series by Tommy Greenwald: 5. Guide to Planet Girl. 6. Guide to Not Growing Up. ( Humorous ).Also we received our December subscription graphic: Graveyard Shakes by Laura Terry.
I think you can see that most of these books are parts of series that we already have begun and the students have been reading. They get very excited when a new episode arrives. They enjoy many genres written by many authors. I am pleased to say that we have more than a few excellent readers in our school. I will end by quoting Mary Pope Osborne, author of many books including the Magic Treehouse Series: " I love reading all kinds of books. I usually have about 10 books going at any one time - books about the past, the present, novels, non-fiction, poetry, mythology, religion, etc. Reading is my favorite thing to do." I hope all our students will be able to share her feelings. Mrs. Pike UES Library
The 3rd grade is collecting items to donate to the Pope Memorial Humane Society this holiday season. We will be collecting the items in a big box outside the 3rd grade classroom
door until December 21st. We hope that you will show the animals at the shelter your COMPASSION! A list of needed items is posted in all of the classrooms. THANK YOU!
