    DOCTORAL SCHOOLS

The University of Milan has 20 Doctoral schools in several different elds

of study, in which highly specialised training and research activities are closely

related. Students holding a masters degree are admitted on the basis of

competitive selection and most of them are supported by fellowships.

They are trained for advanced scientic research or for highly-qualied

professional roles. Programmes mainly consist of independent research projectscarried out under the supervision of a university professor.

The Doctoral Schools have a strong international orientation, with a high

percentage of foreign students and visiting professors and with most

activities conducted in English. Moreover, several of the Doctoral Schools PhD

programmes have established international agreements with universities

and research institutions. More information can be found on our international
