Introduction

Unicla UPC electric drive compressors are built for heavy duty applications and specialised equipment where DC

voltage power is the preferred method of running the air-conditioning or refrigeration system.

 Typical systems of this type vary from small cab vehicles, anti-idle systems in heavy machinery, small transport

refrigeration units, marine air-conditioning and refrigeration, and static installations utilising solar power

generation.

 The UPC range is available in 45cc, 90cc and 120cc compressor capacity with standard voltage configuration

programmed to 24 volt. The electric drive utilises well known Rencool DRK7-24 brushless electric motor and BLDC-

220 programmable controller.

 The main assembly components are constructed from high quality 6061 billet alloy to ensure precision alignment of

the compressor drive coupling.

 The unit is not effected by vibration and abnormal shock forces seen on many heavy equipment applications, and is

able to withstand the rigours of high ambient and wet conditions.

Field trials under certain conditions to date have shown the mean time before failure (MTBF) is up to 100,000 hours

for the electric motor, and 20,000 hours for the compressor.

Features

Compressor - Models used in the UPC range are Unicla UC45, UC90 and UP120 which all feature the Unicla 10

cylinder swashplate design and working assembly. The compressors are configured with standard male insert o-ring

fittings (MIOR) with an additional fitting part number 42203-000160 for oil return connection (7/16” 20UNF) to the

compressor. Standard compressor speeds for each model are set at 1500, 1800 and 2000 rpm accordingly.

Electric Motor - The Rencool DRK7 motor has been developed in the Australian mining industry over many years

and is well known for high durability and efficiency. The brushless 3 phase motor utilises a unique solid state

encoder crank sensor which is programmable to suit standard or custom running speeds and conditions. IP rating is

66 with maximum protection against dust and water ingress.

Controller - The BLDC-220 motor controller has a powerful microprocessor which delivers comprehensive and

precise control functions. It has synchronous rectification and fast pulse width modulation (PWM) to deliver highefficiency running and start-up of the DRK7 motor. The controller is programmable via RS232 connection and is set

at the factory according to the specific speed requirement for each UPC model.

Other standard functions include supply voltage monitoring and voltage protection, current sensing on all 3 motor

phases and thermal protection. Fault codes are displayed via LED panel on the controller front and can be extended

remotely via the J1 harness to any location such as a dashboard facia or cabin console.
