    Standingrmandbattling all throughout the

week long celebration, the College of Busi-

    ness Economics and Management continued

its winning streak by having the title for the

third consecutive time with 15, 525 points during the

44th Founding Anniversary last September 17 to 21.

It was a great pressure to us to have the title for

the third consecutive time and we considered this as

a responsibility kasi kung hindi kami magchampion

    ngayon,wewouldconsideritasourfault,saidJaggy

Lanuza, College Student Council President of CBEM,

when asked regarding his perspective of CBEMs two

years of successive win on the said event.

    Togetherwiththeirthirdwin,theissueofnan-

cial instability had continuously been coherent with the

said college wherein Lanuza stated that, Lahat naman

ng CSC nagkulang talaga sa funds dahil sa Intramurals

    perokinayanamannamin.

Lanuza pointed out that the cooperation of not

only the council but also their delegates and the admin-

istration became their key in getting this years champi-

    onship once more.

With 15, 525 points, CBEM bagged their third

    winreceivingaP10,000ascashprize.TheCollegeof

Education ranked second with 14,020 points, followed

by the Polangui Campus with 11,665 points and Col-

lege of Arts and Letters with 11,116 points.

We can never predict the future, I guess that we

can do is to just do our best and the rewards will just fol-

low. Being the champion comes with action and faith of

course. If God wants us to be the champion every year

then be it. I know naman that CBEMians are talented

and smart enough and they are the main reason why we

    gotthechampionship.Lanuzaadded.

    Same Rank

Like its placement last year, the College of Edu-

cation again ranked as the 1st runner up in the BU Week

despite its full efforts to be the seasons champion.

Arriane Bernardino, CSC President of CE stated,

BUCE is very grateful for this kind of blessing. Were

Almost hindi na rin natin maiiwasan if there are

    VOLUME XLV

    BICOL UNIVERSITY

    CBEM Three-peat as BU Week

    Champ

OVERRATEDLiving up to the name, Iskolars ng Bayan, is hard to

live by but BUeos condently claim the title to be. Absurd,

    yet true.

The 44th Founding Anniversary of Bicol Universitystheme ideals are pictured as the four pillars of the institu -

tion: Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character. These

which are interestingly repeated throughout the celebration

bring a subliminal thought of passivity, of students inability

to live up to the universitys name.

To be iskolars are to be examples of righteousness,

to be model students diligently and actively doing their work

and performing their duty as a citizen of the academe and

the society. Being a BUeo therefore is not just a ti tle to hold

    but a name to exist.

It is the overrated thought that Bicol University stu-

dents disengaged themselves to the freedom of participa-

tion to every activity the academe is pursuing. The clich of

all clichs but BUeos really fail to execute the ideals of uni-

versity by action. More so, the so called sin of omission tothe universitys call for a unied and a strong foundation and

harmonious relationship among its treated family is gravely

    ignored.

The inability to discern the universitys goal to move

and be as one is a manifestation of BUeos immaturity. The

issues on fund insufciency and the habit of Filipino time

are the problems since time immemorial yet it continuously

haunts the student councils who organize the events and

the students who are supposedly to support it.

It is true, however, that the university has established

its name and acclamation as an institution of excellence and

how Bicol University had live by its name producing profes-

sionals and graduates notching board and licensure exami-

    nations.

Indeed, it is undeniable how the institution is giving all

its effort to improve the education quality and its infrastruc -

ture. The students, on the other hand, have their contribu-

tions also by ringing the Alma Mater glory, honor and pride.

Yet, no matter how many accomplishments there are, it will

always go behind on students inability to live by the univer-

sitys pursuit of excellence if they, who are the foundation of

the institution, will continuously neglect to be charactered

    scholarly.

If you claim to be Iskolars ng Bayan and if you are a

true blood BUeo, then prove it and stop this hypocrisy and

self-deluding assertions of how excellent you ought to be.
