SMALL ANIMAL HOSPITAL FIRST OPINION OUT OF HOURS EMERGENCY SERVICE 0141 330 7690

FIRST OPINION OUT OF HOURS EMERGENCY SERVICEThe goals:

• To provide high quality, accessible fi rst opinion care for all pets out with the normal practice hours

• To support local practitioners through provision of an Out of Hours First Opinion service

• To increase our undergraduates experience in dealing with emergency patients

In brief there are two independent services in the same building; a general practice small animal First Opinion Emergency Service and a Multidisciplinary Referral Service. Further details on the two services are given below.

The First Opinion Emergency Service works alongside practices in the local area to provide

emergency treatment when your usual vet is closed (nights, weekends and public holidays). The service operates from the award winning Small Animal Hospital to look after your pet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. The committed and experienced team of vets and nurses deal solely with First Opinion emergency cases.

The Veterinary Team is led by Sophie Ashworth

Sophie graduated from the University of Glasgow and has several years of experience in small animal emergency care. She is responsible for a team of three experienced dedicated out of hours (OOH) vets, who are supported by a team of rotating interns and a dedicated nursing and animal care team.

THE PURPOSE OF THIS LEAFLET IS TO

PROVIDE INFORMATION ON FACILITIES AVAILABLE

FOR CLIENTS USING THE OUT OF

The service also provides overnight facilities for pets in need of some extra care. In the majority of cases your pet will be transferred back to your veterinary surgeon in the morning (unless your veterinary surgeon requests specialist referral care or your pet is unfit to travel due to their illness). Patient transfer can be arranged with a pet ambulance on your behalf. Your veterinary surgeon will be kept up to date with any visits or calls you make.

The Multidisciplinary Referral Service works out of the same hospital building however it is staffed by a different team of people.
