Climate Predictions- In general, Croatia is predicted to get warmer and drier –
especially during the summer.
- Surface snow in northern Croatia will become
uncertain.
- Soil moisture in the spring is expected to drop.
What do we know about the changing climate?
Expected temperature change for 2040-2070 in the summer

Mitigation and Institutional Analysis
What can Croatia do to change the climate?
-The Government has sent a clear message that energy efficiency, renewable energy and reduced emissions are important.
- A fair amount of technological capacity exists for mitigation.
- Opportunities for financing emissions reductions exist and are increasing. This is likely to continue to grow as Croatia moves towards EU accession.

A Climate for Change - Recommendations
- To address current climate variability – regardless of future climate change- data is required to improve the management of specific sectors – e.g. agriculture, disaster response to heat waves/ droughts. It already impacts 1/4th of Croatian economy.
- Physical impact studies coupled with economic analysis could provide the basis for developing adaptation measures.
- Additional analysis related to mitigation is necessary and more stakeholders beyond the energy and industrial sector should be engaged in efforts to mitigate emissions.
- Integrate climate change into longer term strategic plans for infrastructure, urban planning (on the coast and inland), agriculture, water use, etc.
