Understanding the Various Aspects of Fine Art Nature Photography

A popular saying is that beauty's in the eye of the beholder, however, there are still some aspects that differentiate between nature pictures and fine art nature photography.

First and foremost , the photographer interested in producing art needs to come to the realization that they'll need to take literally hundreds of photos for every one that may be a contender . Sometimes , not much can be done by the photographer when the subject matter is organic and unpredictable beyond having a stockpile of patience and the reactive reflexes of a stalking spider . The very first aspect relating to fine art nature photography then is the ability to catch a natural moment. Anyone can photograph lions sleeping in the grass or a storm pelting a reservoir , but the photographer that is both focused and patient who catches that airborne moment as the lion pounces, or those first few raindrops on the water .

Yet another aspect of making a photo a fine art photo is to be sure one has the proper equipment for the job . A tripod, for example, is imperative if you're taking photos in nature not only to ensure the consistency of the shots , but also to minimize photographer movement as much as possible so they don't disturb the wild environment. The right lens for the particular style of photography is essential, for a lens that is 300/4 will create different effects than a 20mm wide angle lens .

Another aspect is lighting that really shows the difference between fine art nature photography and simple shots from the zoo . It's easy to find natural light , and it's the best, but only when it's not harsh like it is in the middle of the day . Not only should you know about light sources , but also be able to control it. Using things like reflective foils, white boards, and umbrellas may not be needed when photographing nature depending on landscape composite and the time you're shooting . Of course, it's imperative that you know the equipment you do and don't need to get the desired effects .

As we already mentioned , beauty is definitely in the eye on the one beholding the photo, but certain techniques and practices will show up in pictures that you can really call "fine art." If you want to produce fine art nature photography, the photographer must have patience and be ready, must know what equipment is and is not needed, and finally , must know the right lighting techniques useful in creating the desired effect . The rest is up to nature and chance .
