The blood leads to our cells all the fuel needed to keep our lives: sugar (glucose), oxygen, hormones and joy.And remove the cells from burning garbage - acids, carbon dioxide and any sorrows.

To accomplish this work, blood must circulate throughout the body.

Just as all rivers flow to the sea,

where blood flow to the heart.

The blood comes out with strength of heart, runs through "miles" of arteries and brought back to the heart through veins.

For blood to circulate through the body it is necessary that a pump (the heart) do force (pressure) to push this blood inside the arteries.

Page 7: Understanding high blood pressure

When passing the blood within the arteries is a resistance (pressure), caused by friction.

The more narrow the artery, the greater the resThe more narrow the artery, the greater the resistance (pressure) to the blood flow.istance (pressure) to the blood flow.

The strength of the heart to pump blood is called the maximum pressure, or systolic.

The resistance that offers the artery to the blood flow is called the minimum pressure, or diastolic.

Thus, when the doctor says your blood pressure is 12 by 8, he is stating that the pressure (force) exerted by the heart to push blood through the arteries is equal to 12 mm of mercury

(MmHg) and pressure (resistance) that are offering their arteries to the blood flow is 8 mmHg.

The maximum pressure must always be greater than the minimum, so that blood can circulate. There is pressure of 8 x 12 or 6 to 10, because if the minimum is greater than the maximum the blood circulation.

artery normal

pressure increased

Blood pressure depends on the width (size) of the artery. Artery with normal caliber allow maximum and minimum pressures are also normal. If the caliber of the artery to narrow, increasing the friction of blood and the minimum pressure, the heart has to do more strength to push blood into the artery, increasing the maximum pressure.

Artery with normal caliber. The blood passes without difficulty. Normal blood pressure, type 12 x 7.

See examples:

In this case, the force that makes the heart - Maximum pressure - is normal, because the artery has appropriate size and not much resistance to the blood pressure (minimum standard).

Artery with small lumps. The blood passes with difficulty.

Abnormal blood pressure, type 18 x 10.

When the size of the artery is reduced increases resistance to the passage blood and, therefore, amounts to minimum pressure. When the minimum pressure rises, the heart has to do much more force to push blood, and consequently also rises to maximum pressure.

Hypertension (Or high blood pressure) has its origin in the narrowing of the caliber of the arteries (and consequent increase in pressure), which also forces the heart to increase its pressure in order to push the blood in these narrowed arteries.

It is not known, until now, the reason the arteries become

thinner.

Until we discover this reason, there is no cure

for high blood pressure.

Not!!

The remedies for high blood pressure are designed to dilate the artery, causing her to return to its normal size. Who have high blood pressure should take their medications regularly. No use taking medication for some time and think you are cured.

When the person stops taking the drugs to get high back pressure. This happens because the remedy is not acting on the cause of hypertension (which is not known), but its effects on (Narrowing of the artery).

Who have high blood pressure can usually at the discretion doctor, stop taking drugs (and maintain their normal pressure) if: *reduce body weight and keep it normal

*regular physical exercise, like walking (preferably every day) for at least 30 minutes. *alcohol use very sparingly. *NEVER smoke. *Avoid foods high in salt and fat.

High blood pressure is also becoming a disease of children, because they are fattening and eating too much salt (sandwiches, popcorn, cookies, etc.).
