Ministry of Art Ministry of Art is an International Museum of Political Art. The proposal calls for the conversion of 23 lightly armored weapons storage buildings for the display and production of political art by a roster of international artists. The architecture, and resulting art, will combine to create a highly charged and unstable environment which is both imprisoned and protected by the Seal beach Naval Weapons Station.
The Astronomer House The astronomer house was conceived as part of a professional practice course. The project was carried from schematic design to construction documents in twelve weeks and provided the opportunity to learn the seperate phases of design. The home is a one bedroom live/work space featuring a mezzanine for the astronomer tenant.
The oecc is located at the northern most point of skid rown in downtown Los Angeles. On the ground level the center functions as a high end aquatics center to both homeless and high rise tenants. The program above the aquatics center serves as a long-term homeless rehab.
In celebration to the 10 year anniversary at Pasadena’s museum of California art , an installation was designed by Layer La. my involvement in the project began in the early phases of space analysis and carried through to the setup of the gallery drawings.
The tensegrity structure ,designed and fabricated by a team of four, was a submission to the annual Design Village competition at Cal Poly SLO. The structure was achieved through parametric design and stress tested through the use of parametric programs.

Through the use of a modied vierendeel truss system, we were able to create a direct relationship between the different stages of housing and the specic programs used to benet that stages tenants. The vierendeel truss also allowed for circulation paths on the exterior and direct center of each oor plate creating an open ventilation system throughout each bar.

Approximately 17 inert storehouses were constructed at Seal Beach during 1945. The buildings
are located in the western portion of the station, east of Kitts Highway. They have gable-roofs
and have been parged (Plate 48). The buildings have four sets of double-leaf metal doors anked by metal vents. A raised poured concrete dock with stair access on one end and a ramp on the other spans the façade of each storehouse. Alterations have taken
place overtime, including replacement roofs, masked doors, and the removal of windows. The
building that appears to be the most intact has six by six casement windows, four large
sliding wood doors, and two pedestrian doors (Plate 49). The buildings are
approximately 200 feet long, 50 feet wide and 20 feet tall. By the end of 1945, NWS Seal Beach had 69 magazines and 17 inert storehouses.
By the end of World War I, ammunition and explosives were stored in standardized magazines that varied in construction materials, spacing, and size, in accordance with the classication of
ammunition or explosives being stored (Figure 25; Table 6). Finished ammunition and loaded
components (Class I) were stored in magazines measuring 50-by-20 feet and spaced 300 to 400 feet apart. Structures were of hollow brick with concrete oors. Because of
the tonnage of ammunition and weight of an individual shell or package, standard gauge railroad
tracks ran to the magazines. These magazines had reproof exteriors and were constructed
so that in the event of an explosion, the walls and roof would break up into small fragments.
In general, all magazines were to be adequately grounded and reproof, have ventilators to regulate temperatures, have loading platforms with the oor at railroad car-oor height,
have adequate drainage, and have tightly tting doors placed opposite of the prevailing winds.
