Lake Winnebago Observation Tower

The competition called for the design of an observation tower located in Menomonee Park on the western shore of Lake Winnebago in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. It was sponsored by the Oshkosh Southwest Rotary Club. They imagined the project to become a navigational beacon for boaters and fi sherman at night and also be an icon for the community. My concept was to make the shell of the tower dissolve itself as people ascended to the top. This way, the observer would slowly be exposed to the breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding area once they reached the observation deck.

Urban Edge Studio

Art Installation

The Urban Edge Studio called for the design and build of a site-specifi c art installation on an assigned location in the city. Our team was given a vacant lot on the corner of Clarke and Bremen Streets in the Riverwest neighborhood. Our conceptual design played off the confl ict of interest of the other buildings sharing the intersection. The southeast building is a bar and the northeast is a church built in the early 1900’s. The goal was to have people in the neighborhood interact with the installation both physically and intellectually.

Campus Housing

Field Level Plan

Massing Diagram

The goal of this junior semester project was to design a building to house 250 students on campus. The site was located on the west end of Englemann Field at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The concept of my design was infl uenced by the site location at the edge of campus and the adjacent neighborhood. Scale and height were important considerations in the process due to the smaller residential houses and the larger campus buildings. My solution was to make a courtyard building that would diminish height, or “step down”, as it approached the neighborhood to acknowledge both scale issues at each edge of the site.
