StaffThe Community center consists of two floors. The first floor is public space, providing visitors with spaces required by the client. The second floor consists of the doctor space as well as the area for the staff.
12 Apostles Is located on the is situated at the De Oudekraal Bay in Victoria Road. Surrounded by indigenous vegetation, with the Atlantic Ocean right next to it, gives the Twelve Apostles Hotel a setting and location that is unique. Because of the location visitors can enjoy mild winters and a pleasant summer.
The designed hotel room faces the Atlantic ocean making use of the natural daylight in the afternoon as well as wide warm color spectrum during the sunset over the ocean.
The floor plan is designed to maximize usable space taking the American Disability Act into account, as well as to provide a luxurious space with a large bathroom and spacious bedroom. The rectangular layout forms a minimalistic floor plan, that walks on the border to brutalism. To give it a more organic touch, suiting the concept of African heritage and nature, materials and colors played a crucial role.
space planing & furniture floor plan
The hotel room is designed to appear as spacious as possible, to add to the luxury fealing of the space. The color palette is somewhat muted and light, focusing on the view through the two large windows that reach from floor to ceiling. Punches of green color are added to make a visual connection between the interior and natural
environment, where the hotel is situated. Also the darkcircular area creates a connection between the rooom and the bathroom. This link is also made through the use of wood flooring which apears to be the same in the bathroom and the bedroom.
The circular leather flooring together with the fan and dark background on the recessed ceiling create a visual focal point and highlight in the bedroom. Regardless of the visual impact it has, the circular shape draws back on the tradi-tional African dancing. The circular motion of the fan which turns to one side plays with that idea as well. The abstract representation forms luxurious spot that tells a short story about African tribes, without being literal. Another detail on all walls, that creates bond between the suite and its en-vironment is a poem about South Africa, written by Wayne Visser.

Philippine Chamber of Commerce was an interior studio project that drew its concept from the nature
of the Philippine islands. The main structure and visual components of the design were created by investigating and slicing the existing topographical surface into planes.
Philippine Chamber of Commerce
These rice terraces were also the inspiration for the concept of using the topographical surface as the concept for the chamber of commerce.
Using the narrow corridor it is possible to create a focal point that can assist visitors in navigating through the building and finding the reception as well as the gallery without using signage.
Space planning was a crucial element of the office design, because function dictated its success and the success of the project. Without functional and maximum utilized spaces the whole project would fail. Therefore, most of the time was spent analyzing walking paths, space adjacencies and the tasks every space has to fulfill. This process shows just some major steps and changes in the space planning development.
The Chamber of Commerce was to be located on one floor of an existing building in Doha, in the area of West Bay. A floor plan was provided with the task to design a portion of the floor.
The ceiling was the main carrier of the concept and a visual point of interest that binds together all spaces in the building. Therefore, effort had to be invested into analyzing all functional parts of it, such as: lighting, HVAC system, electrical wiring and fire safety. Parametric modeling systems were of great use getting quick models that can be prototyped quickly and analyzed for structure as well as visual and acoustical properties.

Looking at the section view, the concept of toposurfaces is implemented through wall partitions that clap together and create layering. Stone, a natural material, was used for walls, creating a neutral area between the wavy ceiling and the patterned floor. Lime green is used as a punch color creating visual interest, and leading the viewer’s eye through the space. Wall-washers are used to create some visual interest in long corridors, breaking up the wall planes.
The concept of this luminaire was mimicking nature. The goal was to create a flower, not through materials but
through light. LED technology was the best choice, creating a sustainable and eco-friendly solution. It offers durability with a full range of RGB colors engaging the viewer by mixing different colors and changing light intensity. The greatest challenge, but also the most exciting part about working with LED technology, was to operate in a new field, since LED in living spaces is something that just recently came up. Because of that, something as simple as an electric circuit board that had to be custom made, I had to learn from my own mistakes, since not much reference was provided, as it usually is for an undergrad student.

This part of the luminaire serves as the visual focal point but be-comes emergency light in case of fire or power outage. It runs on a separate battery and can sustain constant power for 10 hours.
The upper part of the luminaire creates an ambience light using a 20W diffused bulb. It can change color and intensity depending on the user’s needs. Its ability to evoke interest through interaction makes this fixture an interesting focal point, even after a long time of use.
Using convex lenses, the light can be bent into different shapes depending on the position and shape of used lenses.
Cake’n BakeExpand Your Emotions
Cake’n Bake was a university-based branding project in cooperation with FITCH, an international British branding company. The task was to create a fully developed identity and flagship store, located in a mall in Doha. This shop itself
had to follow IBC requirements, as well as ADA codes. Focus was also put into a lighting study as well as sensory design and circulation paths.

The concept of the shop is a sliced cake. Through its combination of colors the shop creates a dissonant and unique focal point in a mall. The space is supposed to attract both genders from all ages, social and economic groups. It serves mainly as a shop focusing on product display, but has also a “Customize Me” and a “Taste Me” area, as well as a café on the first floor. Also, a “Showcase Kitchen” is located in the café allowing customers to look over the chef’s shoulder, while enjoying a drink or a slice of cake.

Parametric Food Trays
As a part of my work-study as Assistant for Professor Johan Granberg, I worked together with
two other students, Rana Rwaished and Spencer Gregson, on a concept for parametric Lebanese food trays. The trays are composed in a set; when placed together they form a geometric Arabic pattern. The crucial part of it is that the trays can be prototyped in endless variations, shapes, patterns and numbers, through the procedural formula we have developed. This allows us to create unique sets, keeping the volume inside every tray the same no matter what shape it turns into. The whole process of reforming and patterning takes just a few seconds making it very cost- and time-efficient.
Our first prototype was a simple wooden model, serving as a research tool for cultural behavior and order in which food has been eaten. It allowed us to study and understand how the “Ritual” of eating takes place in Lebanon.

A Portable Architecture for Qatar...improving migrant workers’ living conditions through design
A low-tech, economical solution for modular container housing.
This concept for living and sleeping space combines traditional furnishings with contemporary efficiency, providing a comfortable space for migrant
workers while socializing, relaxing, eating and sleeping. Taking into consideration certain design criteria, including the local climate and keeping the space cost-efficient, we looked for ways to address the need for a balance between shared and private space.
Natural fibers such as sisal and rattan (made from palm trees) are traditionally used in hot and arid climates because of their temperature moderating abilities and cost-efficiency. These can be used for window treatments for sun shading, furniture, and fabrics for covering cushions. Traditional sleeping mattresses, popular in warm climates, are often constructed out of sisal filled with cotton. Rattan and wicker furnishings are hard-wearing, comfortable, eco-friendly and low-cost.
The structure is modular and made out of shipping containers, allowing easy transportation, construction and deconstruction.
Flexible furnishings such as beds that fold into the wall or convert to sofas, boxes that convert from coffee tables to chairs to beds, etc. These suggestions can be constructed out of laminate-clad MDF for an easy-to-clean, durable solution.
World Cup 2009 Trophy Competition
As a part of the horse rac-ing cup in France, I had the chance to compete and design one of the trophies for the
year of 2009. The cup was sponsored by the Equestrian Club in Doha, and the tro-phy was manufactured in Italy.
Through the fusion of Arabic design and French Art Nouveau this trophy was chosen to represent the cup and teamwork between the French organizers of the event and Qatari sponsors.

Miscellaneous Work
Since I have begun my design education through fine arts, drawing and painting were not only a very important tool in my everyday life but also in my designs
and presentations and process work. I think with a pen on paper, using a line to create form, function and fiction.
