Dear Plainfield,

In 2020 we faced a deadly and, at the time, unknown enemy called COVID-19. It forced us to distance physically and innovate to stay productive. However, even as we were forced apart, a powerful thing happened and we clung together, closer than ever. We united to take care of the elderly, the at-risk, and the disenfranchised putting truth to the words “we are our brother’s and sister’s keepers". Out of this dark time emerged new respect and appreciation of life, family, friends, neighbors, and community, and it gave wings to a movement called #LovePlainfield.

As we emerged from lockdown, it was evident that the one thing we craved more than anything else was camaraderie, togetherness, and community. With caution, we welcomed back some of our staple events such as National Night Out, the House Music Festival, and Fourth of July Fireworks. Then we added a few more, like Friday on the Plaza, the End of Summer Block Party, the food Truck Festival Series and others.

Although COVID slowed us down, it didn’t stop us, and we were busy doing the work to keep our city running and meeting the needs of our community. Resident services were, and continue to be, priority number one pandemic or not. So, we broke ground on a few development projects, cut ribbons to welcome new businesses, and approved plans that will forever change the landscape of our downtown business district.

Plainfield, we are entering the most influential time in our city’s history. A time of growth, a time of opportunity, and incredible diversity. We are a microcosm of America in all the best ways. We embody the American dream story, and we must claim our successes and show our pride.

We emerge from the despair of lockdown as a butterfly, ready to spread our wings and soar. We stand together, we fight together, united and lifting as we rise.

En 2020 nos enfrentamos a un enemigo mortal y, enese momento, desconocido llamado COVID-19. Nosobligó a distanciarnos físicamente e innovar paramantenernos productivos. Sin embargo, inclusocuando fuimos forzados a separarnos, sucedió algopoderoso y nos aferramos más unidos que nunca. Nosunimos para cuidar de los ancianos, los en riesgo y losprivados de sus derechos, poniendo verdad en laspalabras “somos de nuestro hermano y guardianes delas hermanas ”. De esta época oscura surgió un nuevorespeto y aprecio por la vida, la familia, los amigos,los vecinos y la comunidad, y dio alas a unmovimiento llamado #LovePlainfield.

Cuando salimos del encierro, era evidente que loúnico que anhelamos más que cualquier otra cosa erala camaradería, la unión y la comunidad. Con cautela,le dimos la bienvenida a algunos de nuestros eventosbásicos, como National Night Out, el House MusicFestival y los fuegos artificiales del 4 de julio. Luegoagregamos algunos más, como Friday on the Plaza,End of Summer Block Party, Food Truck FestivalSeries y otros.

Aunque COVID nos frenó, no nos detuvo y estábamosocupados haciendo el trabajo para mantener nuestraciudad en funcionamiento y satisfacer las necesidadesde nuestra comunidad. Los servicios para residentesfueron, y continúan siendo, la pandemia de prioridadnúmero uno o no. Entonces, comenzamos laconstrucción de algunos proyectos de desarrollo,cortamos lazos para dar la bienvenida a nuevasempresas y aprobamos planes que cambiarán parasiempre el panorama de nuestro distrito comercial delcentro de la ciudad.

Creating, One Plainfield and One Future

Music in The Plaza is a series of music festivals that celebrates Plainfield's multiculturalcommunity. The City's first show took place onAugust 7th. The event included multiple giveawaysand featured David Cedeno and his Latin Orchestraplaying live Salsa music.

May 2021, Plainfield residents competed in threecategories: small gardens, full gardens, and landscaping.Winners were selected in June for each category, and an

overall winner was selected from the top three. Cathy Cole-Diouf received tickets to the Plainfield Symphony Garden

Tour, and all winners received Love Plainfield gifts.

Friday, August 13th, kicked off the first of Plainfield'sFood Truck Festival Series, followed by a week-longCitywide Food Festival. Many of our Plainfieldresidents came out and enjoyed Plainfield's best foodtrucks and great music. Tuesday, August 3rd the City of Plainfield hosted its NationalNight Out Event at Black Lives Matter Plaza. The celebrationincluded visiting several of the City parks and pools anddistributing back-to-school supplies to our young people.Over 2,000 residents and surrounding neighbors joined thefestivities inclusive of food and interactive games.

On Saturday, September 18th, the City of Plainfield hosted the second wildly successful House Music Festival for Prostate Cancer Awareness. The event, which occurred at Cedar Brook Park, featured free prostate cancer screening, COVID-19 vaccinations, several health organizations, Plainfield's famous food trucks, and other attractions. All had a great time.

Plainfield's FirePrevention Fair

Plainfield's Fire Department hosted its annual Fire Prevention Fair at Library Park. Many families and surrounding neighbors came and enjoyed several attractions including pumpkin picking. The Fire Department cares about educating and informing residents of the importance of fire safety.

We welcomed fall with our "End of Summer Block Party"on September 24th. The party featured a classic andmodern car show exhibit. Our local "Plainfield High"school students gave memorable performances, and therewere giveaways, Plainfield's own Big C's food truck, freeCOVID testing, COVID vaccinations, and much more.Español: Dimos la bienvenida al otoño con nuestra "Fiesta de fin de verano" el 24 de Septiembre. On Tuesday, June 1st, the City of Plainfield hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome a new pharmacy to the community. The location of CVS is central and convenient, proving to be a complement to the new Randolph apartments and soon-to-be medical mall, which is across the street.

"from HERE," The co-sharing,commitment-free, hourly, anddaily workspaces are conceptuallydesigned to include the needs ofthe modern man and woman. Thespace offers a clean, safe, and productive work environment and has many amenities, including fast-reliable WIFI and complimentary coffee.

"from HERE" officially opened October 8th, 2021. Business hours are 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

Plainfield's new school honors local legends and longtime civil rights activistsCharles and Anna Booker. The school will open in September 2022. The new 3-story facility is approximately 120,000 sq.ft. and can host 840 students from Kto 5th-grade. The school will include 41-classrooms, an art room, music room,technology lab, science demo room, computer lab, gymnasium, cafeteria, mediacenter, playground, and a basketball court.Español: La nueva escuela de Plainfield rinde homenaje a las leyendas locales y a losactivistas de derechos civiles Charles y Anna Booker.
