Jerry Granelli b rings a lifetime of

influence and storytelling to

his latest album.

From the haunting harmonies in “Another Place” to the deep

grooves on “The Swamp”, Jerry takes the listener on a

journey through his own mind, and what he hears now.

Throughout the 60s he performed with many major players on

the scene, including Jimmy Witherspoon, Mose Allison, Lou

Rawls, John Handy, Sonny Stitt, Sly Stone, Ornette Coleman

and Dewey Redman. He was right there too as jazz styles began

to swing towards the beginnings of psychedelia. His free-form

improvisational trio held down the opening slot for comedian

Lenny Bruce for three months in 1963, and shared bills at The

Matrix and The Fillmore with Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother and

the Holding Company and the Grateful Dead. They also

accompanied the Dead on their first European tour in 1971.

Jazz Times calls Granelli “one of those uncategorizable veteran

percussionists who's done it all.” A Canadian citizen since 1999,

When a band leader shakes off his counterparts and embarks on a career alone, the first hurdle is creating a different sound so as to not appear to be

cashing in on the trail blazed before him. In his new songs, there is no trace of the now‐defunct band in Mercer’s music. "When I was with Jackie

Valentine I had to not only creatively satisfy myself but also three other people in my band. I found that this wasn’t always the best process because I

felt like it limited my creative output. The ideas that really had me inspired and excited about writing would usually not do the same to the other

members, so I would be forced to abandon those songs. Now that I’m on my own I feel like I can think outside of the box and make music that makes

happy and inspired. These songs would never have seen the light of day if I were still in that band."

The result of his graduation into solo work is so immediately fetching that even those listeners who are uninitiated with Jackie Valentine could find

themselves shocked. It’s evident right away that Kieran Mercer has hatched into a confident, songwriting mastermind, with what seems like a decade

Released towards the end of a successful cycle of disaster films

that included THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE and THE

TOWERING INFERNO, producer Roger Corman was looking for

a composer who could provide a large scale orchestral score for

his film and he turned to composer William Kraft who, at the time,

was building a successful reputation for himself as a composer

and conductor, as well as a master percussionist with the Los

Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.

Performed by the National Philharmonic Orchestra of London,

the composer deftly uses all the colors of the orchestra to

highlight the dramatic elements of the story. William Kraft (b.

1923, Chicago) has had a long and active career as composer,

conductor, and teacher. He is Professor Emeritus at the

University of California, Santa Barbara, where he served for 11

years (1991 - 2002) as Chairman of the Composition Department

and Corwin Professor of Music Composition. From 1981 -85, Mr.

Kraft was the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Composer-in-

Residence.

The history of IRON SAVIOR began in 1996 when the band was

founded by Piet Sielck, Kai Hansen (Gamma Ray) and Thomen

Stauch (Blind Guardian), at first only to be a studio project. But

the musical direction was clear right from the start: traditional

(and influenced by NWOBHM greats like Judas Priest and Iron

Maiden) power metal with science fiction concepts linked lyrics.The rough, expressive voice of Sielck set additional accents that

gave the band its own profile. In 1997 they released their debut

album "Iron Savior" which was received in the scene with lots of

praise and quickly established the new band.
