Someone To Lava – Pixar (C)A long long time ago (G7)there was a volcano (F)living all alone in the (C)middle of the (G7)sea. (C)He sat high above his bay (G7)watching all the couples play, (F)and wishing that (C)he had someone (G7)too. (C)And from his lava came this (G7)song of hope that he sang out(F)loud every day (C)for years and (G7)years.

[Chorus] (F)I have a dream I (C)hope will come true that (G7)you’re here with me and (C)I’m here with you. I (F)wish that the earth, sea, the (C)sky up above-a Will (F)send me (G7)someone to (C)lava

(C)Years of singing all alone (G7)turned his lava into stone Un(F)til he was on the (C)brink of extinct(G7)tion. (C)But little did he know that (G7)living in the sea below (F)another volcano was (C)listening to his (G7)song (C)Every day she heard his tune (G7)her lava grew and grew Be(F)cause she believed his (C)song was meant for (G7)her. (C)Now she was so ready to (G7)meet him above the sea as he (F)sang his song of hope (C)for the last (G7)time. [Chorus] (C)Rising from the sea below (G7)stood a lovely volcano (F)looking all around but (C)she could not see (G7)him. (C)He tried to sing to let her know that (G7)she was not there alone (F)but with no lava his (C)song was all (G7)gone He (C)filled the sea with his tears and (G7)watched his dreams disappear as (F)she remembered what his (C)song meant to (G7)her. [Chorus] (C)Oh they were so happy to (G7)finally meet above the sea (F)all together now their (C)lava grew and (G7)grew. No (C)longer are they all alone with a(G7)loha as their new home (F)and when you visit them (C)this is what they (G7)sing. (F)I have a dream I (C)hope will come true that (G7)you'll grow old with me and (C)I'll grow old with you. The Minstrel Boy – Traditional The (C)Minstrel (F)Boy to the (C)war is (F)gone In the (C)ranks of death you will (G)find (C)him; His (C)father's (F)sword he hath (C)girded (F)on, And his (C)wild harp slung be(G)hind (C)him;" (Am)Land of (F)Song!" said the (G)warrior (C)bard, "Tho' (F)all the world be(G)trays (C)thee, One sword, at (F)least, thy (C)rights shall (F)guard, One (C)faithful harp shall (G)praise (C)thee!" The (C)Minstrel (F)fell! The Sound of Silence – Simon and Garfunkel (Am)Hello darkness, my old (G)friend, I've come to talk with you (Am)again, Because a vision soft(F)ly creep(C)ing, Left its seeds while I (F)was sleep(C)ing, And the (F)vision that was planted in my (C)brain Still re(Am)mains (C)Within the (G)sound of (Am)silence. In restless dreams I walked a(G)lone Narrow streets of cobble(Am)stone, 'neath the halo of (F)a street (C)lamp, I turned my collar to the (F)cold and (C)damp When my (F)eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon (C)light That split the (Am)night (C)And touched the (G)sound of (Am)silence. And in the naked light I (G)saw Ten thousand people, maybe (Am)more. People talking with(F)out speak(C)ing, People hearing with(F)out listen(C)ing, People writing (F)songs that voices never (C)share And no one (Am)dare (C)Disturb the (G)sound of (Am)silence. Fools said I, you do not (G)know Silence like a cancer (Am)grows. Hear my words that I (F)might teach (C)you, Take my arms that I (F)might reach (C)you. But my (F)words like silent raindrops (C)fell,(Am) And (C)echoed In the (G)wells of (Am)silence And the people bowed and (G)prayed To the neon God they (Am)made. And the sign flashed out (F)its warn(C)ing, In the words that it (F)was form(C)ing. And the sign said, the (F)words of the prophets Are written on the subway (C)walls And tenement (Am)halls. And (C)whisper'd in the (G)sounds of (Am)silence.

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald – Gordon Lightfoot (G) (Dm) (F) (C) (G) (F) (C) (G) The (G)legend lives on from the (Dm)Chippewa on down Of the (F)big lake they (C)called gitche (G)gumee The (G)lake, it is said, never (Dm)gives up her dead When the (F)skies of No(C)vember turn (G)gloomy With a (G)load of iron ore twenty-six (Dm)thousand tons more Than the (F)Edmund Fitz(C)gerald weighed (G)empty. That (G)good ship and true was a (Dm)bone to be chewed When the (F)gales of No(C)vember came (G)early. The (G)ship was the pride of the A(Dm)merican side Coming (F)back from some (C)mill in Wis(G)consin As the (G)big freighters go, it was (Dm)bigger than most With a (F)crew and good (C)captain well (G)seasoned Con(G)cluding some terms with a (Dm)couple of steel firms When they (F)left fully (C)loaded for (G)Cleveland And (G)later that night when the (Dm)ships bell rang Could it (F)be the north (C)wind they'd been (G)feelin? (G) (Dm) (F) (C) (G) (F) (C) (G) The (G)wind in the wires made a (Dm)tattle-tale sound And a (F)wave broke (C)over the (G)railing And (G)every man knew, as the (Dm)captain did too, Twas the (F)witch of No(C)vember come (G)stealin. The (G)dawn came late and the (Dm)breakfast had to wait When the (F)gales of No(C)vember came (G)slashing. When (G)afternoon came it was (Dm)freezing rain In the (F)face of a (C)hurricane (G)west wind. (G) (Dm) (F) (C) (G) (F) (C) (G) When (G)suppertime came, the old (Dm)cook came on deck saying (F)Fellas, it's (C)too rough to (G)feed ya. At (G)seven p.m. a main (Dm)hatchway caved in, he said (F)Fellas, it's (C)been good to (G)know ya The (G)captain wired in he had (Dm)water coming in And the (F)good ship and (C)crew was in (G)peril. And (G)later that night when his (Dm)lights went outta sight Came the (F)wreck of the (C)Edmund Fitz(G)gerald. (G) (Dm) (F) (C) (G) (F) (C) (G) Does (G)any one know where the (Dm)love of God goes When the (F)waves turn the (C)minutes to (G)hours? They (G)might have split up or they (Dm)might have capsized; (F)May have broke (C)deep and took (G)water. And (G)all that remains is the (Dm)faces and the names Of the (F)wives and the (C)sons and the (G)daughters. (G) (Dm) (F) (C) (G) (F) (C) (G) (G)Lake Huron rolls, Su(Dm)perior sings In the (F)rooms of her (C)ice-water (G)mansion. Old (G)Michigan steams like a (Dm)young mans dreams; The (F)islands and (C)bays are for (G)sportsmen. And (G)farther below lake On(Dm)tario Takes (F)in what Lake (C)Erie can (G)send her, And the (G)iron boats go as the (Dm)mariners all know With the (F)gales of No(C)vember re(G)membered. (G) (Dm) (F) (C) (G) (F) (C) (G) x2 In a (G)musty old hall in De(Dm)troit they prayed, In the (F)maritime (C)sailors ca(G)thedral. The (G)church bell chimed till it (Dm)rang twenty-nine times For each (F)man on the (C)Edmund Fitz(G)gerald. The (G)legend lives on from the (Dm)Chippewa on down Of the (F)big lake they (C)called gitche (G)gumee Su(G)perior, it is said, never (Dm)gives up her dead When the (F)skies of No(C)vember turn (G)gloomy (G) (Dm) (F) (C) (G) (F) (C) (G)

Strum Patterns There’s never really a “right” strum pattern for any given song. However, you also don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time you learn a new song. Below you’ll find some of the most common strum patterns for various time signatures and styles. Play around with them and see what you like. Strum Notation Every half-beat will be represented by one of the following:

“d” = strum down
