A ukulele has 4 strings and is typically tuned in GCEA

G stringor 4th string

C stringor 3rd string

E stringor 2nd string

A stringor 1st string

(or top string) (or bottom string)

You don’t have to tune by ear, of course.

There are plenty of mobile apps that will do it for you in seconds!

You form the shape of the chords with your left fingers, just like you would on a guitar.

To play a C chord, place your 3rd finger on the 3rd fret of the bottom string

There are various ways to strum. One easy way is to:

§ strum down (D) with your index (quickly followed by your other fingers)

§ strum up (U) with your thumb (quickly followed by your other fingers)
