A ukulele has 4 strings and is typically tuned in GCEA

G stringor 4th string

C stringor 3rd string

E stringor 2nd string

A stringor 1st string

(or top string) (or bottom string)

You don’t have to tune by ear, of course.

There are plenty of mobile apps that will do it for you in seconds!

To play a C chord, place your 3rd finger on the 3rd fret of the bottom string

To play an A Minor, place your 2nd fingeron the 2nd fret of the top string

To play a F chord, place your 1st finger on the 1st

fret of the 2nd string, and your 2nd finger on the second fret of the top string.

To play a G chord, place your 1st finger on the 2nd fret of the 1st string, your 2nd finger on the second fret of the 3rd

string and your 3rd finger on the 3rd fret of the 2nd string.

HOW TO strum

There are various ways to strum. One easy way is to:

§ strum down (D) with your index (quickly followed by your other fingers)

§ strum up (U) with your thumb (quickly followed by your other fingers)
