Knowledge Transfer Partnerships is Europe’s leading programme helping
businesses to improve their competitiveness, productivity and performance.
A KTP is a partnership between a company or public / not-for-profit organisation and a university / FE college, project-managed by a highly-qualified recent graduate

LORD STAFFORD AWARDS 2008 WINNER
A Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Staffordshire University MA Ceramic Design graduates working closely with Professor David Sanderson and Aynsley China, established an in-house design resource to create 3D shape 2D surface design to bring fresh new ideas into the company.
This KTP was also recognised for it’s achievements by the Lord Stafford Awards as winners of the 2008 ‘Achievement in Innovation’ category.

LORD STAFFORD AWARDS 2010 WINNER
An INNOVATIVE project developed by University Forensics Professor John Casella in partnership with Sci Chem Ltd scooped the Achievement in Innovation Award at the 2010 Lord Stafford Awards.
SciChem Forensic Investigations are designed to show schoolchildren the scientific processes behind crime-scene investigation.
To develop the idea, the University entered into a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Bilston-based schools equipment company Scientific and Chemical Supplies Ltd (SciChem) to produce and market forensic science kits.

for future development.”
UNIVERSITY COMPANY FLUX IS A HIT IN PARIS
A NEW and INNOVATIVE ceramic design firm launched by Staffordshire University students and staff returned from a showcase event in Paris with bulging order books.
Flux Stoke-on-Trent, based in the Stoke Creative Village, College Road, was launched at the five-day-long Maison et Objet trade fair in the French capital.
During the event the company took over £30,000 worth of orders for cups and saucers, mugs, plates and other tableware.
The designs have also attracted attention from various trade magazines, with some of the Flux products set to be featured in Elle Decoration and Veranda in New York.
“Now the company is established, the growth
potential is great. We could be looking at £100,000 in
orders this year.”

Better Funding: FP7 “rules of participation” allow funding of up to 75% for research and development activities of SME’s and funding of up to 100% for management and training

A new Technology Strategy Board scheme is offering funding to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to engage in R&D projects in the strategically important areas of science, engineering and technology, from which successful new products, processes and services could emerge.

basis for assessment by independent experts.

EUREKA’S Eurostars – The Eurostars programme is the first European funding and support programme to be specifically dedicated to SME’s
Under UK rules only innovative intensive and research performing SME's are eligible for up to 50% funding of eligible project costs.
In the UK the maximum amount of grant funding is 300,000 Euros per UK participant in any single project.
To receive UK funding the research performing SME must be a UK based. SME participants must be VAT Registered and have been registered at Companies House and trading for at least 12 months before the closing date for applications.

Collaborative research and development
Collaborative research and development (R&D) is designed to assist the industrial and research communities to work together on R&D projects in strategically important areas of science, engineering and technology - from which successful new products, processes and services can emerge.
Regular competitions for funding of collaborative R&D projects have been held since 2004, and by June 2007 a portfolio of over 600 projects was being supported with a combined business and Government investment in excess of £1 billion. The scope of the collaborative R&D competitions has been expanded recently to support large projects as well as smaller projects approved within faster timescales.
