Speaker of the HOC

• John Bercow • The Speaker presides over the House's debates, determining which members may speak.

• The Speaker is also responsible for maintaining order during debate, and may punish members who break the rules of the House.

• The speaker is neutral whilst in the post.

Lord Chief Justice

• On 3 April 2006, when the Constitutional Reform Act 2005 came into force, the Lord Chief Justice became head of the judiciary of England and Wales, a role previously held by the Lord Chancellor.

• Confusingly his name is not Bill Smith it’s “Lord Igor Judge” so he had the right name for the job!

• The Leader of the House of Lords is a government minister and member of the Cabinet.

• He is responsible for the organisation of government business in the House of Lords.

• The current Leader of the House of Lords is Rt Hon Lord Strathclyde.
