Description Officially known as "Shorts, KD, 1949 Pattern,"

these shorts became famously popular as

"Gurkha Shorts" during a 1980's fashion craze.

WPG fans have asked for these shorts for years,

and now we have them. Made of a sturdy khaki

drill like the originals, not the flimsy

Chinese-made copies. Two side slash pockets, no

back pockets. Inseam 12 inches. Crossover front

waistband with two side buckles and lots of

pleats. These are high waisted, so measure your

size at navel height.

Comments: I've looked long and hard for year to find authentic Ghurka shorts.

I'm British and I know the 'real deal' from the wannabes - and

WPG's are authentic in every detail. The fabric is heavy and robust,

the colour is perfect, construction is accurate, and the

workmanship is first-rate. I love that they're baggy and long - just

the way they were 'back in the day,' and they're perfect for hiking,

long walks, or lazing around the home on hot days. I'm 6' 3" tall,

and the size 36 model is 'just right' in that they're nice a baggy for

air circulation, and the hem falls just to the middle of the knee so

that when seated my underwear doesn't show. I purchased three,

and will order another three as 'spares.' Thank you WPG for an

outstanding product at a fair and affordable price. I should note,

too, the delivery service to my home in Utah was speedy. Fantastic

very long. Sizing is perfect for me - measure above your hips as

they sit very high. I love the look and the wide leg is very cool. I've

washed them a few times now and haven't seen any shrinkage or

Comments: I have another pair of Ghurks shorts I bought several years ago

and the buttons are metal and the buckles are stamped and the cut

is appropriately generous. The new ones are probably better cloth

but the buttons are plastic, the buckles are heavy squarish cast

pieces and the fit (of the same waste size) is rather...trim? Still a

good value but this run isn't quite as good.

Comments: Well made, fantastic fabric and color. I cannot assess if they live up

to original Gurkha shorts as I have never seen them except on

photos. They are true to size if you measure at the waist at the

level of the navel. Rather baggy but old photos suggest that they

were made that way. I wore them during holidays in Cuba and the

roomy cut was perfect in the hot and humid climate. The huge side

pockets provide plenty of room. As described in previous

comments they are rather long but I rolled them up which works

fine and looks good, too.

Comments: The Gurkha shorts are awesome and arrived as advertised: sturdy

fabric and, at least to an amateur eye, authentically cut. They are

very 40's - high waist with pleats - so if worn as-is they might attract

a few odd glances and comments. But weirdly they also look great

that way. Legs can always be rolled up to wear them lower on the

waist, or hemmed (otherwise they'll look like capris or baggy cargo

shorts, which doesn't do them justice.) Overall sturdy, attractive,

and my favorite kind of military clothing: authentic but easy to

incorporate into a civilian wardrobe.

that feels bullet proof. Decent, if a bit think metal hardware. The

only flaw in the product, is that the last fly(1st from bottom) button

hole was stitched, but not cut. Overall, excellent fabric, decent

hardware, but let down by their quality control. This would have

received a perfect/excellent rating if only they remembered to cut

my fly button hole.

Comments: In a previous review, I had been critical regarding the eyelets on

the short's lacking grommets. I hadn't noticed, until I wore them,

that the eyelets have something even better: They have a

reinforcement seem around the eyelets. In my experience, these

are more durable than grommets and work very well to prevent

threading. Now, if only the buckle straps were moved forward of the

hip bone and they change the buckles on the shorts for the same

ones they use on the Gurkha pants, I'll up my score to 4 1/2. If they

start putting rear pockets on them, I'll gladly up it to 5!

Comments: They are just comfortable and very durable. They are true to the

military specs. I've the JPeterman version, which is little more

civilianized and cut down from the regulation pattern, and I like

yours better. The fabric and detail is excellent. A note that one may

want to get one size larger than their normal belt size, as the wide

cummerbund belt goes around the middle of the waist, over the

navel. The pant length is to military spec, to be rolled up over the

knee, or down in the field. It's easily hemmed or cuffed. I just roll

mine up.

Comments: Right off the bat, let me say I very much like my shorts. But two

things need work: the buckles, the buckles straps and the belt

straps. The buckles are square and thin. They have no sharp

edges, but I bet those thin edges and pointed corners can cause

fraiying and damage after a while. My old Banana Republics

gurkha shorts have buckles made of cylindrical metal, with blunt

corners. I've already substituted the originals for these. As to the

buckle straps, these are located a bit too far back, almost behind

the hip. Thank Heavens my flexibility is good. I had to twist my

trunk quite a bit to fasten the buckle. They should reach the front of

the waist bone, at least, to avoid the annoying twist. Regarding the

other strap, the eyelets are cloth, unreinforced by grommets. Again,

perhaps that's a nod to authenticity. But it can result in tears. As

many reviewers have stated, it's wise to order on or two sizes

larger. I like my shorts. But I won't buy another for a while, to see if

these problems are corrected.

These are a true Gurkha. Quality is like that of American made

Bill's Khakis who no longer makes this style. Downside is yes the

buckles are flimsy but I live in NYC and found a place called M&J

Trimming which makes a perfect buckle for these. It is style

#46277017. It is in a gunmetal finish and they sell for $2.98 per

buckle. It is easy to swap the buckles. these buckles are excellent

and I passed the info on to Jerry.

Comments: Third time re-order. They are great except for: 1)I must have back

pockets so my local tailor in Boca takes fabric from the inside front

pockets and creates back pockets. Voila! 2)As discussed last go

'round ... the buckles are quite 'cheezy'. I have had them replaced

by sourcing them out from a novelty shop in NY. Brass buckles that

work quite well. It would be worth charging an extra $5 to have a

higher quality buckle. 3)So, I had the tailor also add a 1" piece of

fabric in the waist at reat as the size 34 'works' BUT creates a pull

at the front of shorts where the buttons snap up. So these are the

most expensive shorts I now own. But I LOVE them regardless. No

belt needed. Good look!

Complaints about styling obviously miss the point of a reproduction!

Without an original on hand, it's hard to know exactly where the

waist straps should be "zeroed out," but I find on mine that they're

properly closed only on the tightest holes. I wonder if, as on regular

belts, the "sized" hole shouldn't be the middle one? Buckles could

be a bit better, but no biggie. If you ever discontinue these, please

give us all plenty of warning so we can lay in lifetime supplies.

The fabric is great, they were about 3 1/2" too long, but that is

easily corrected and customized. I did order UP one size which is

advisable -- esp after washing and drying. Nonetheless, I am very

happy with them, and they are handsome and not easy to find

either. As certain reviewers indicated, the side clips might require a

little smoothing off to not wear on the waist ties, but so what? The

shorts are great for the price and smart looking. This company is a

Comments: My husband has scoured the planet for many years trying to find

his Gurkha (replica) shorts he wore in the 1970's - WPG to the

rescue! Adjustable waist and long length (traditionally Gurhkas are

rolled and cuffed at the hem to your preference) -- but if you're in

between sizes you should order the next size up. As a last minute

Christmas gift these shorts were here lickity-split and under the tree

for Christmas -- thank you, WPG!

Comments: I owned a pair of these back in the 80s bought at Banana Republic.

They wore out and I moved on but I have always wanted another

pair. In an idle moment recently I googled "gurkha shorts" and

found them on the WPG website. The rest is history: excellent

product, attention to detail, and super-efficient delivery from UAE.

I'm a 36 waist and that's what I ordered - the fit is fine but the style

may not suit every anatomy

Comments: After reading other reviews, I ordered my regular size - and

interestingly, I found the shorts TOO SMALL (exchanged for 1 size

larger and ordered an extra pair to boot !). For the last several

years in fashion, men's casual pants have been worn lower and

closer to the hip than the waist and so these shorts at size 32 were

on my waist and I felt too small. I received the size 34 and using

the smallest buckle hole they fit FINE (low waisted, as I wanted -

AND remembered my original Banana Republic ones fit). So, very,

Very, VERY HAPPY. And yes, the buckles need to be replaced with

brass roller buckles (small price to pay for these great shorts).

Comments: VERY well-made. I agree that the strap buckles are very flimsy and

I will replace them, which is easily done because all you have to do

is unbutton a strap. You can find better replacement buckles online

for little or nothing. The button fly was a surprise, but the buttons

are very sturdy and the button holes look to be very durable. My

concern (and warning) is that, every other pair of pants that I own

are 34" waist, and so that's the size I ordered, but they are too

small. Since I am losing weight anyway, I am keeping them

because I like them so much and will be able to wear them in the

future. For now, I decided to order the next size larger so I don't

have to wait until I can get in the 34's to wear them! Great looking

product!

me but the straps allow you to adjust the size to well below 30. Like

others have said, the shorts are too long. I think this is probably

just a characteristic of the style and a tailor can easily shorten

made. A little thin on the fabric, however, these are warm weather

to a 32. The fit in the waist is now correct but as a few others

mentioned length is a bit long and will have to be hemmed. Any

chance of getting these as full length trousers? I use to have a pair

from Banana Republic. Original order delivery was VERY fast. I

beleive it came from US location. Exchange delivery was quick and

that came from thr UAE.

purchased these short, one size larger than my typical short size

(size 36 vs size 34)they are too large. so rma'd shorts back to CA

for an exchange. Also i thought the buckle was a bit 'cheasy', but

the overall quality was spot on.

Comments: A word to the wise. When measuring your size for these shorts,

remember that the size is a direct measurement of your waist size,

measured about 1" above your navel, due to these shorts being

designed to be worn high-waisted. Also remember to take the

measurement over the top of a shirt if you intend to wear them with

a shirt tucked in. I ordered the 44 based on the above and have

found no problem with length of buckle straps etc. They are long

(below the knee) but this was the style of these shorts compared

with earlier models, and I find the cross-over strap method of

fastening a lot more comfortable than the earlier front buckle

method. I suspect that I am a size in between 42 and 44, but you

can't expect Jerry to carry a huge number of half sizes. After all,

this is military issue type kit and I suspect, as per 'back in the day',

you'd take the best fitting size you could get and then take it to the

nearest tailor for custom alterations.

Comments: I'd made a mistake re. waist size when ordering these shorts, so

placed another order for shorts in the correct size and requested

that this order be deleted... Due to WPG incredibly fast delivery, by

the time I was requesting the above, the first order had already

been shipped! WPG, however, refunded me the cost of the first

order and even now is trying to save me the postage cost of

returning the first order of the too small shorts by trying to find

someone in Australia who's after this size! Told 'em, just give me an

address to send them back to, & I'll pay the postage... And I

thought customer service had all but died out... Nice work,

Comments: I've searched for Gurkha shorts, and these are the first I've found

that are both well-made and affordably priced. The sizing was a bit

off with mine, though. I ordered my regular waist (38), but found

that cinching the waist straps was next to impossible. I think it's not

so much that the waist is too small, but that the straps are too short

(as mentioned previously). Perhaps trying a size 40 would solve my

problem, but I'd still suggest lengthening those straps....
