weeks of the regular season. Sophomore Kevin Bond (turf toe), missed both of UIC’sexhibition games, but should be ready for the season lid-lifter on Nov. 17th versus MontanaState.

PRESEASON RECAP:UIC 74, Robert Morris 71 – November 5, 2005 (UIC Pavilion)UIC stormed back from a 12-point, second-half deficit in its exhibition opener to edgeRobert Morris, 74-71, at the UIC Pavilion. Trailing 65-53 with just over 10 minutes left, theFlames held the Eagles without a field goal the final eight minutes and went on a 15-4 runover the same stretch to earn the win. Sophomore Othyus Jeffers had a memorable debutto lead UIC, tallying 20 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and three steals. He also nettedwhat proved to be the game-winning tally with a free throw with :55 left that snapped a71-71 tie.

St. Joseph’s (Ind.) 74, UIC 73 – November 9, 2005 (UIC Pavilion)UIC received strong performances from newcomers Othyus Jeffers and Danijel Zoric, but itwas not enough as the Flames dropped a 74-73 decision to visiting St. Joseph’s (Ind.) at theUIC Pavilion. Jeffers recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Zoricadded 15 points and five boards. The Flames were plagued by 21 turnovers on the nightwhile the Pumas crashed the boards for 20 offensive rebounds in the contest. SullivanSykes paced the Pumas with 17 points.

QUITE THE EXHIBITIONIST:Othyus Jeffers, who honors his cousin Mark Miller by wearing his retired No. 12, had animpressive preseason for the Flames. Jeffers fell just short of a triple-double,totaling a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds while adding eight assists and threesteals, versus Robert Morris on Nov. 5th. He backed that effort up with a 14-point, 10-rebound showing versus St. Joseph’s (Ind.) on Nov. 9th.

POOLE IN THE PRESEASON:Senior Elliott Poole put up strong numbers in the Flames’ two exhibition contests thisseason, despite averaging just 18 minutes per game. NO THREES, NO PROBLEM:UIC did not record a three-point field goal in its exhibition victory over Robert Morris onNov. 5th, going 0-for-3 from behind the arc. UIC went triple-less on two occasions lastseason, including in a 62-56 victory over Youngstown State on Jan. 3, 2005 at the BeeghlyCenter.

POOLE AND BOWEN COME ALIVE IN THE SECOND HALF:Seniors Elliott Poole and Justin Bowen came alive in the second half versus Robert Morrison Nov. 5th, helping erase a 12-point deficit to lead the Flames to victory. The duo com-bined for 22 points and 13 rebounds in the final 20 minutes on 11-for-20 shooting. Bowenfinished the contest with a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds) while Poole, who waslimited to just five minutes on the floor in the first half after picking up two quick fouls, ended up with 16 points and five boards.

JUSTIN TIME:UIC is looking for a breakout season from senior forward Justin Bowen. The 6-foot-7 wingaveraged personal bests of 7.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last season while shooting51% from the field. Bowen, who split time last year as a starter (17 games) and as a reserve, ledthe team in rebounding on seven occasions in 2004-05 while posting a pair of double-doubles.

POOLE PARTY:Forward Elliott Poole enters his senior campaign as the Flames’ top returning scorer andrebounder. The 6-foot-7 post presence averaged a career-best 9.9 points and 5.8 reboundslast season while shooting a team-high 52% from the field. Poole put up those numbersdespite averaging less than 27 minutes per contest on the floor. His pro-rated stats averageout to 14.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per 40 minutes, which are numbers Poole should expectthis year with extended playing time as one of the Flames’ go-to players.

QUITE A ROUGH SCHEDULE:UIC will endure a demanding non-league slate early on this season with contests againstteams from the BIG EAST, Big Ten, ACC and SEC. The Flames open the year with five games in10 days, starting in Fairbanks, Alaska for the BP Top of the World Classic and finishing with atrip through Georgia to take on Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern. UIC’s early-seasonschedule also includes dates with Mississippi, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Syracuse andDavidson, all before opening Horizon League play on New Year’s Eve versus Youngstown St.

PLENTY OF TV TIME FOR THE FLAMES:UIC will have plenty of T.V. time during the 2005-06 season with at least seven games beingbroadcast, including a national television appearance at home when ESPN2 airs the Flames’tilt with Detroit on February 4, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. UIC will have five games aired locally byComcast SportsNet - 12/10 vs. Ole Miss; 12/17 vs. Northern Illinois; 1/21 at Detroit; 1/28 vs.UW-Green Bay; 2/11 vs. Loyola.
