THE ALL-STAR AWARD (DEVELOPER OF THE YEAR- READER’S CHOICE)

UEM SUNRISE CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CSR) PROJECTS: Enhancing Education, Helping Community

and Preserving Environment

UEM Sunrise’s ultimate objective, as stated in our Corporate Vision, is to Build Communities of the Future. This reflects a holistic approach towards ensuring that our developments are environmentally friendly while applying the best practices to offer the highest quality infrastructure and facilities. It also encompasses our commitment to elevating the standard of living of underprivileged communities. We achieve this through our Education Enhancement, Community Development

and Environmental Preservation initiatives under our Corporate Responsibility banner.

1) EDUCATION : PINTAR SCHOOL ADOPTION PROGRAMME

We are one of the biggest contributors to the Khazanah-inspired PINTAR school adoption programme, and currently supporting 21 adopted schools in Iskandar Puteri as well as Selangor. UEM Sunrise has to-date adopted 21 schools within the Southern and Central regions under the PINTAR School Adoption Programme, which was founded in 2008.

Through UEM Sunrise PINTAR School Adoption Programme, the Company aims to help raise the academic performance of its adopted schools’ students by implementing key initiatives to accomplish the objectives and aspirations of PINTAR by using an intervention approach to influence better educational outcomes for underserved students in Malaysia.

With 18 adopted schools in Iskandar Puteri, Iskandar Malaysia and three in the Klang Valley, UEM Sunrise has implemented related programmes guided by PINTAR’s four core modules namely, Motivational and Team Building Programme; Educational Support Programme; Capability and Capacity Building; as well as Reducing Vulnerabilities and Social Issues. Among the programmes organised under UEM Sunrise PINTAR School Adoption Programme are Academic Excellence

Programme; Road Safety Programme; Students’ Motivational Camp & Motivational Talk with Parents; National Day Campaign; Resource Centre Enhancement; High Achievers Award and many more. These programmes developed by UEM Sunrise contribute to the holistic development of the students - academically, psychologically, and socially.

1.1) Academic Excellence Programme

The Academic Excellence Programme aims to help raise the academic performance of its PINTAR Schools’ students in Iskandar Puteri. Since the programme was established in 2008, UEM Sunrise has been supporting school activities, especially those designed to help students achieve academic excellence. Examination seminars and clinics are amongst the main programme conducted for the benefit of the students. The Academic Excellence Programme helps its PINTAR schools to prepare their students who will be sitting for UPSR, PT-3 and SPM examinations through seminars and clinics conducted by experienced teachers and professional trainers.

1.2) Road Safety Programme

The Road Safety Programme was introduced in 2011 under PINTAR Core Module 3 i.e Capability and Capacity Building, targeted at PINTAR primary school children. The Road Safety

Programme aims to educate and train young school children with the appropriate knowledge, skills and practical safety prevention measures to enable them to identify traffic hazards and self-regulate their behaviors based on inherent risks in the road and traffic environment. Additionally, the programme also aims to inculcate road safety consciousness amongst the public, starting with young children.

1.3) Students’ Motivational Camp & Motivational Talk with Parents

We also organised Phase 1 of a Motivational Camp for 120 PINTAR secondary school students at Tiram Indah Village, Johor Bahru. The objective was to inspire self-confidence and self-discipline in the youth as well as to encourage them to be accountable for their actions. Phase 2 of the motivational camp held at Iskandar Puteri, Kota Iskandar, focused on developing stronger student-parent relationships and managing students/parents’ and teachers’ expectations.

1.4) The National Day Campaign UEM Sunrise introduced its National Day Campaign at all its PINTAR schools in 2011. The programme is part of UEM Sunrise’s strategic initiatives to support the Government’s efforts to inspire the spirit of patriotism, promote multi-racial integration and foster unity amongst the younger generation especially the school students. The programme also aims to create a greater sense of pride in the nation’s historical events by highlighting their significance and importance to inspire PINTAR students to become historically profound future leaders. The National Day Campaign is created based on students’ competency with several exciting yet educational competitions such as National Day Amazing Race, drawing, essay writing and mural drawings. This annual campaign receives overwhelming response from UEM Sunrise PINTAR students and teachers.

1.5) Library Enhancement Programme

UEM Sunrise is committed to ‘uplifting’ its adopted schools via PINTAR Programme, by providing necessary assistance to enhance the school’s academic and co-curricular performance. Hence, another CSR initiative to help raise the academic performance and to inculcate good reading habits, particularly among its PINTAR students in Iskandar Puteri, is the Library Enhancement Programme.

Introduced in 2011, the programme was developed based on the understanding that the school library plays a significant role in promoting and bringing desired results in schools’ academic performances as it provides information, broadens knowledge, inculcates ideas and develops comprehension that are essential in today’s information-and knowledge-based society through continuous and constructive reading habits.

The programme is established to enable its PINTAR schools’ students and teachers to have easy access to valuable knowledge resource – books. Under this programme, UEM Sunrise purchased and contributed reading materials and library equipment based on the preference of the respective schools.

Sekolah Kebangsaan Nusantara in Gelang Patah, Johor, was the inaugura school selected for this programme and it has officially opened its newly-enhanced library in 2012. The facility was refurbished and also upgraded with new books and interior facelift, worth RM40,000 for the benefit of more than 820 students.

1.6) High Achievers Award

The High Achievers Award, organised since 2009 under UEM Sunrise Academic Excellence Programme, aims to reward the high achiever students who sit for their UPSR, PT-3 and SPM examinations. The reward is also to motivate and encourage the students to strive harder for their future endeavors. The award ceremony not only acknowledges the students’ effort’s, persistence and determination in delivering their personal best,
