Cisco UCS FlexPod Solution Pak: A Pre-Validated Data Center Solution

that Simplifies your Transition to the Cloud

FlexPod™ is a jointly developed data center solution from Cisco and NetApp that is built on a unified

architecture across compute, network, and storage layers. FlexPod delivers solutions for IT and business

applications in both virtualized and non-virtualized environments. It has been pre-tested and validated

with leading hypervisors, operating systems, and applications.

FlexPod is a defined set of hardware and software that serves as an integrated infrastructure stack for all

virtualization solutions. FlexPod includes Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS), Cisco networking, and

NetApp storage. Customers may choose to standardize FlexPod for your needs and continue to grow by

simply scaling out with FlexPod, providing a very predictable and rapid way to scale your IT

infrastructure.

NOTE: While NetApp storage is an integral part of the FlexPod solution, it is not included in the Cisco

UCS FlexPod Solution Pak. Customers must order NetApp storage separately.

FlexPod combines servers, storage resources, and the network fabric to create an agile, efficient, and

scalable platform for hosting applications. FlexPod allows hardware to be abstracted into service profiles,

resulting in a very agile platform. The platform is configured and tested with industry-leading

virtualization and native OS environments using Cisco Validated Design methodology.

FlexPod includes the following components in a standardized configuration and the integrated solution

• Cisco UCS is a data center platform that is designed to eliminate time-consuming manual

configuration, reduce total cost of ownership (TCO), and increase business agility. Cisco UCS

combines compute, network, storage access, and virtualizat ion into a scalable, modular system that is

easily managed as a single entity by Cisco UCS Manager. The drastically simplified architecture

greatly reduces the number of devices that must be purchased, configured, managed, and secured.

Service profile templates help enable automatic, policy-based hardware configuration and

deployment for large, stateless computing environments. The highly efficient Cisco UCS extended

memory technology also reduces memory requirements by up to 60%.

• Cisco Nexus data center switches use award-winning Unified Fabric technology to identify and

consolidate all network traffic onto a single simplified, cost-effective architecture. Nexus switches
