UCL Departmental Work Experience: Research Group Placement Cover Letter: James Reeves I wish to take part in the High Energy Particle Physics Research Group Placement to gain experience within the world of Physics at University and working within Physics. As I progress further into a Universe of Physics at school, and in my free time, I discover more and more the beauty of everything. I have always had a craving to learn how things work. From experimenting with fire in my kitchen, to building my own PC I have pursued a desire of knowledge and as I was given opportunities throughout my school career I have taken every opportunity to further my physics knowledge. I have taken time to visit the laboratories at Imperial University last year and been fascinated at the practical aspect of University Physics. I have also taken part in a Physics competition involving building a Physics puzzle based safe for others to crack with the Weizmann institute. As well as loving the practical side of Physics I also spend much of my free time watching science lectures and TV shows, my favourite of which being Stephen Hawkings’s three part series, ‘Into the Universe.’ My favourite book is Richard Dawkins’s ‘Unweaving the Rainbow’ and I am currently reading ‘The Cosmos’ by Carl Sagan. I greatly enjoyed studying for my triple science GCSEs, especially Physics. I am studying and am fascinated by my Physics and Further Maths A levels. I feel that my extreme love for the beauty of Physics and my thirst for more knowledge should warrant me a place on the Research Group Placement. However much I enjoy the A level course, topics such as High Energy Particle Physics fascinate me even more and I would love to granted the opportunity to have an insight of what Physics at UCL is like. I wish to apply to UCL for a Physics Degree and I feel like this experience will be an incredible opportunity and I would greatly love to be accepted. My passion within the practical side and longing to increase my knowledge of Physics as well as my fresh perspective is what I can offer UCL and hopefully one day if I am studying physics at UCL I can thank this course for giving me the experience to achieve that goal.
