What is an Operating System?
Operating system is a software collection of applications, libraries, and developer tools, plus a program to allocate resources and talk to the hardware, known as a kernel.
What is a GNU/Linux Distro?
GNU/Linux Distro is a Distribution of GNU Operating System which uses a program named Linux as it's kernel instead of GNU Hurd
What is Free Software?
Free software is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, think of free as in free speech.
Free software is a matter of the users' freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software
Freedoms in Free Software
Run the program, for any purpose
Study how the program works, and adapt it to your needs. Access to the source code is a precondition for this
Redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor
Improve the program, and release your improvements to the public, so that the whole community benefits. Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
Ubuntu Philosphy
We believe that every computer user: Should have the freedom to download, run, copy, distribute, study, share, change and improve their software for any purpose, without paying licensing fees.
Should be able to use their software in the language of their choice.
Should be able to use all software regardless of disability.
Our philosophy is reflected in the software we produce, the way we distribute it and our licensing terms, too
