TYPOGRAPHY AND LOGO FOR NINTH OUTCAST:

For all three products it is important that we have a clear typography, used within all products, to ensure that our products are recognizable as relating to each other, and also to ensure that they are confirmative of the Indie pop genre, to therefore attract our target audience. For this reason we have researched into current typography used on album covers etc. currently available on the market, conforming to the Indie pop genre, in order to decide which kind of text I want for my products.

EXSISTING PRODUCT TYPOGRAPHY:

▪ This is an existing album cover, from both the band and he single of which my product is being based on.

▪ I really like the typography exhibited here, as I feel it is very confirmative of the indie pop genre, and appeals to a youngish audience, as to a certain extent it looks like hand writing which gives off a laid back, chilled out ora, of which I feel strongly appeals to both a hippy, indie pop audience and the wider genres.

▪ The fact that the typography, challenges grammatical rules, such as capital letters, also may mean that it appeals to a broader younger target audience (my target audience is 15-18 years old) because they are often attracted to things that symbolize a rebellion and slight challenge to authority.

PROPOSAL FOR MY TEXT:

After looking at existing products I have decided that I want my text to include features:1. Hand writing style text- as this

resembles young people’s handwriting of which would appeal to my desired target audience.

2. I will challenge punctual and grammatical rules, by limiting my use of capital letters and correct wording, as I feel this rebellion tool will further attract my target audience and also enhance a laid back ora, of which is confirmative and representative of the Indie pop genre.

CREATING MY TYPOGRAPHY:

Due to the fact that I wanted my typography to resemble handwriting and to challenge the grammatical rules of the English language, I decided it would look both most original and effective if I wrote the text myself, using a sharpie black marker pen (as this will show up better and make the typography appear bolder, a necessary feature for the front cover). I decided to write the text on an A3 poster paper, and then using blue tac, stick it to a flat surface before photographing it, and then using this to transfer the image of my text onto the platform I want to use.I will use this form, of typography, for all of my products where text/typography is necessary, including the album cover and magazine advertisement.Although I will use a black sharpie marker pen for all the necessary information when I take the picture of it and transfer it to Photoshop, I will be able to change the colour of my text, if I want to do so- however I think that black is quite conformative of the indie pop genre, especially teamed with the necessary accompanying features.

This is an example, of the text of which I wrote using a sharpie marker pen, onto a plain sheet of A3 poster paper.

It was important that I first wrote out the text with a pencil, in case I made a mistake, and then when happy with the information, went over it with a sharpie

marker pen. I produced this text for the front and back of the album cover and also the magazine advertisement.

One difficult thing with this, was that I had to ensure that I kept the typography consistent throughout both the front and back cover and also the magazine

advertisement, so that my target audience would clearly be able to identify it, as my products.

I also produced a logo, for ninth avenue, using the same typography to continue keeping all my products appearing consistent and of a general high standard.

I will gather target audience feedback from people of whom are confirmative of my target audience to ensure that they approve and are attracted top this text, in order

to guarantee the overall success of my products sell ability and appeal.

I challenged grammatical rules by not using capital letters at the start of a new name or sentence. I feel this is very appealing because the rebellious nature will attract my young 15-18 year old target audience. Furthermore, the lack of consideration to grammatical rules will also be confirmative of the indie pop genre, because they are often associated with being laid back and chilled out.

I like the fact that the text is not overly tidy and neat, as I feel this makes it more interesting and different to current products on the market. In addition, the text looks more original and hand written which is a feature of which I want to enhance rather than hide.

TARGET AUDIENCE CUSTOMER FEEDBACK:

▪ Customer one “ I really like this text I feel that it is of a high standard and would appeal to me. It is also very different to the text you usually see which further enhances its appeal because it is different to the mundane everyday products available on todays market!”

▪ Customer two” this typography is really nice, and even though to some extent it could look messy, it kind of looks tidy too?. I think its really original that the text is actually hand written0- I think it would make the audiences more attracted and feel closer to your product which is really positive!”
