Local Area Network

A local-area network (LAN) is a computer network that spans a relatively small area. Most LANs are confined to a single building or group of buildings, however, one LAN can be connected to other LANs over any distance via telephone lines and radio waves. A system of LANs connected in this way is called a wide – area network (WAN).Most LANs connect workstations and personal computers. Each node (individual computer ) in a LAN has its own CPU with which it executes program, but it also is able to access data and devices anywhere on the LAN. This means that many users can share expensive devices, such as laser printers, as well as data. Users can also use the LAN to communicate with each other, by sending email or engaging in chat sessions.

Wide Area Network

The term Wide Area Network (WAN) usually refers to a network which covers a large geographical area, and use communications circuits to connect the intermediate nodes. A major factor impacting WAN design and performance is a requirement that they lease communications circuits from telephone companies or other communications carriers. Transmission rates are typically 2 Mbps, 34 Mbps, 45 Mbps, 155 Mbps, 625 Mbps (or sometimes considerably more). Numerous WANs have been constructed, including public packet networks, large corporate networks, military networks, banking networks, stock brokerage networks, and airline reservation networks. Some WANs are very extensive, spanning the globe, but most do not provide true global coverage.

Personal Area Network

Personal Area Networks are networks where multiple devices interconnect to communicate with each other that helps improve the efficiency, safety, security, reliability and convenience of the system.Microchip offers MiWi™ Development Environment which is Microchip's proprietary wireless solution and also certified ZigBee® protocol stack, which helps customers develop wireless applications and reduce the time to market.

Mobile Broadband

Any internet broadband network you have to pay for but if you want too get signal from outside your house you can because there's signal in your house but you have to pay for it if you are away from your house but if you went walking and went up a hill where there's lots of trees you may not really be able to get any signal.
