Types of Tournaments

Elimination Tournaments

• Used to a greater extent in the intramural program.

• is understandable since time and space facilities are at premium.

• determines the winner in the shortest time.

• In case of odd number of teams a “bye” is given to one or more teams as the case may be.

Single Elimination

• easiest to organize• The quickest way to declare a

winner.• Certain formulas based on the

number of competitors are used to determine how long it will take to finish the tournament.

Double Elimination

• Is one fairest types.• Each entry must be defeated

twice before being eliminated.• One of the complicated

Round Robin Tournament

• is one where each team plays every other team.

• recommended if sufficient time is available.

• One of the fairest types• Each team competes against the

total entry

Formula: N(N-1)/2

• Drawing the schedule of facilitated by giving each team an assigned number.

• Then rotating the number ”pivot point” for each round.

• All other teams are placed in a counterclockwise direction, but keep the team 1 constant.
