Variable Area FlowmeterOperation Manual
1.General Information
This manual will assist in installing, using and maintaining your Rotameter. It is your responsibility toMake sure that all operators have access to adequate instructions about safe operating and mainte-nance procedure.
Warning !For your safety, review the major warnings and cautions below before operating your equipment.
1. Use only fluids that are compatible with thehousing material and wetted components of yourmeter.2. When measuring flammable liquids, observeprecautions against fire or explosion.3. When handling hazardous liquids, alwaysfollow the fluids manufacturer’s safetyprecautions.
4. When working in hazardous environments, always exercise appropriate safetyprecautions.…………………………..5. During meter removal, fluids may spill. Followthe fluids manufacturer’s safety precautions forclean up of minor spills.…………………………..6. When tightening the meter, use a wrench onlyon the wrench flats.7. For best results, calibrate the meter at least 1time per year.……………………
1.1 Product DescriptionVariable area flowmeter is intended for measurement in most industries.……….
There are two basic components of variable area flowmeter:
1. The Detector, which includes theflowtube, and float
2. The Converter, which is the mechanicaldisplay or electronic device responsible for signalprocessing, flowcalculation, display and output signals.
The wetted parts (pipe and float) should be appropriate for thespecifications on the intended type of service.Review of the compatibilities consistent with thespecifications is recommended.
All SH250 variable area flowmeters are factory tested and calibrated.A calibration certificate is included in the shipment of each meter.

1.2 Unpacking and InspectionUpon receipt, examine your meter for visible damage.
The meter is a precision measuring instrument and should be handled carefully.Remove the protective plugs and caps for a thorough inspection. If any items are damaged or missing, contct Klinger Denmark.
Make sure the flow meter model meets your specific needs. For your future reference, it might be use-full to record this information on nameplate in the manual in case it becomes unreadable on the meter.

4. Cautions for Installation
4.1 For optimal performance, prior to installation
● Flush out the pipe or tube leading to the flowmeter
● For gas measurement, dry the pipe or tube leading to the flowmeter.
● Installation Direction: the variable area flowmeter must be installed as vertically as possible toensure the most accurate flow reading, with the exception of horizontal model.
● Fluid direction: direction of flow is from bottom to top in vertical models and can be either right toleft or left to right in horizontal models, as specified when ordering.
● Align the pipe or tube leading to and from the flowmeter axially with the connections on theflowmeter to keep them free of stress. If necessary, support the pipe or tube leading to and fromthe flowmeter to prevent vibration being transmitted to the flowmeter.
● To ensure the accuracy, the flowmeter requires straight pipe sections of at least 5D in front andbehind the rotameter.
Warning: Precaution for direct sunshine and rain when the meter is installed outside.
4.2 Connections
Use a gasket between the meter flange and mating flange. Determine the material of the gasketbased on the operating conditions and type of fluid.
Note: Do not over tighten the flange bolts. This may cause the gasket to be compressed intothe flow stream and may decrease the accuracy of the meter.
Installation Dimensions
See Figure 1 for detailed dimensions.

6.Maintenance
6.1 InspectionThe inspections should be carried out at least once per year for better service.
Within the scope of routine maintenance of the system and pipelines, SH250 should also beinspected for signs of corrosion, mechanical wear and leaks, as well as damage to the measuringtube and indicator.
SH250 must be removed from the piping before cleaning.
6.2 MeasuringTube,FloatThe tube and the float have to be cleaned if contamination of the measuring tube impairs themobility of the float.
Replacement or cleaning of the float:
● Remove SH250 from the pipe.● Remove upper retainer from measuring tube● Take floatstopper and float out through the top of measuring tube.● Clean float and measuring cone● Insert float and float stopper into the measuring tube.● Set retainer into tube● Check float for free movement● Install SH250 to the pipe.
For replacing float, an additional measuring error is to be expected if recalibration is notconducted.
