// FEEDBACK

“ I met Tyler Page a couple of years ago at a music studio where he is an instructor. Having attended and graduated from Cal Poly, we both had a lot in common. I have observed his excellent people skills with his students, associates & staff. He also happens to be an incredibly talented musician. As I got to know Tyler, we often spoke about his projects and his future plans. I have also watched him fly across his keyboard as he worked on modeling his school projects in AutoCad in between lessons. My instructor said this, as I remarked, “Tyler is an excellent musician”: “He is a bright young man and strikes me as someone who is excellent at everything he does”. From my observations, I’m inclined to agree.

Tyler has another year at Cal Poly and will be graduating in 2015. Tyler is bright, enthusiastic, and looks to have a promising future...”

a narrative landscape composition that explores the occupation of a desolate reality focused on developing technologies of defense. historically set in post WWII America, the composition unveils themes of human ingenuity in adapting existing engineering to new purposes. it is reflective of a time when exploring the edges of advancement was not only encouraged but culturally essential in a period of worldwide conflicts and fears of domestic invasion. signs of developing network infrastructures such as highways and aqueducts reflect the sudden expansion that arose from concerns for national connectivity. the barren landscape that was previously only shaped by time, is left deeply marked by these trials of advancement.

architectures of opportunism explores concepts of ecological succession, habitation, and occupation of abandoned structures by opportunistic species. the composition challenges current cultural values of a

continuously developing suburban landscape complacent with displacing adapted communities. themes of reclaiming the discarded landscape for new purposes are present, but with shortcomings readily apparent in

the lack of remediation of the land in haste of presenting new opportunities for a hungry consumer society.

/ CONCEPT

Mojave Water was a student design competition proposed by the Mojave Water Agency in Apple Valley, CA. The task was to reinvision the exisiting ladscaping of the Mojave Water Agency headquarters. The existing planting pallete was largely unsucessful, and the Agency wanted to use the opportunity to use the landscaping for public garden demonstrations of high desert native landscaping, a program they termed “Cash for Grass”. The challenge was to create a new planting design that not only would survive the harsh desert climate, but would be accessible and attractive to visitors so that they would be encouraged to replace their lawns with more appropriate plantings.

/ TECHNIQUE

Using Illustrator and Photoshop, I created a planting plan that was easy for the public to understand and envision for their homes.
