In this project I explored theideas of people falling mind-lessly into to the machine of

life and comparing this to theability to break from the moldand thinking for ones self.

The form comprises two majorelements the glass box, with itselaborate steel structure ex-pressing the rigidness and mo-notony of massed produced popu-lar culture, and the metamorphicthought bubble expressing thefreedom of individual thought.

The program called for exhibi-tion space, which is enclosed inthe metamorphic thought bubbleas to occupy it with examples offree thought. It also calledfor a theater, which occupies

the main floor, this informaltheater becomes a catalyst forhuman interaction and dialogue.

A conflict exists between thepark and the city. The cityslowly encroaches on the park

imposing its order, distortingthe parks natural beauty. This building explores that ideaby first replacing the trees inthe footprint of the buildingwith columns that are off plumbwhich gives the illusion of theorganic forms of the trees. Thecolumns are enclosed in glasscreating the majority of theprogram of the building, whichblurs the interior and exteri-or boundary. This glass enclo-sure, which is off the grid ofthe city, represents the park. Then the wooden box is intro-duced representing the city andits buildings. This box, whichis on the grid of the city,

distorts the glass enclosurerepresenting the citys impo-sition on the park. The float-ing glass roof connects boththe glass enclosure and the boxunifying them.

Dorr Street is a major connec-tion between Downtown Toledo,OH and the surrounding suburbs.Over the past years Dorr Streetlost its radiance and impor-tance as a connection betweenurban and suburban living. Thegoal of this project was to re-vitalize this corridor to thehart of the community. This wasa group project where each groupworked on a specific section of

Dorr Street. This specific sec-tion encompassed a universityand its surrounding community.

Creating important publicrealms within the community, connections across Dorr Streetare made. Inherently, identi-fiable associations betweenthe two districts are created.

Specific and distinct spatialzones developed from followinganalysis of focal spaces, im-portant nodes, and the creat-ed sensible connections. Thesenewly created zones function asstrategic bridging links acrossthe datum that is Dorr Streetto improve mutually both thecommunity and the university

    region.

This project asked todesign a home for anaccomplished magician. This home was designedfor David Copperfieldand captures essence andaccomplishments of hisprofession as a magi-cian.

The house was designedto conceal its charac-ter as one approachesthe front entrance. Onceone enters it begins ex-pose the true characterof the open and glassypublic area of the home.

This area representsthe audience of the ma-gician being open to thepossibilities of magicgiving themselves to theperformer. The adjacentwing of the home, whichis the private quarterslooks as if it were levi-tating above the ground.

Owens Corning approached TheBowling State University Ar-chitecture Program and asked

if students could design el-ements of their booth forthe 2009 United States GreenBuilding Conference. I wasamong the group of five stu-dents chosen for the project. These are some pieces I de-signed.

As a team we were asked to

design and build elements oftheir booth using two of theirpremier green productsEnergyComplete spray insulation andrigid foam insulation board.Rigid foam was the primaryproduct used being that itcould withstand 40 pounds persquare inch. Our charge wasto use these materials in a

new and unconventional way tocapture the attention of con-ference attendees. Our goalas a group was to design acohesive set of furniture andpartition walls that had anorganic shape that would con-trast the practical applica-tion of the products. We also

layered the product to givelife and depth to the staticobjects.

This project required an investigation into the juxtaposition of a Cubistpainting and a grid. By using a still life by Le Corbusier. The project askedfor an abstraction of the elements of the painting overlaid onto a grid. Using

the fundamentals of composition and design this layering of elements displayeda contrast of organic shapes and a rigid self-governing grid.

My project focused on the fundamentals of integration of the two elements(painting, grid),hierarchy, and positive/negative space in two and three dimen-sional representation. The grid breaks down where large elements of the paint-ing are represented and the elements of the painting become present through

negative space of the grid where the grid is strong.

This project required the study of the elements of design through the artof folding paper. By using one sheet of 8.5 x 11 and cutting and folding itI explored the idea of asymmetry and hierarchy. My design was to asymmetri-

cally balance the two sides of this work by creating a system of squareson each side. The squares create a hierarchy in size and also depth. Alsoby framing different views new squares are created for example if it wereviewed from the longer sides squares overlap to create the new squares.buildings. This box, which is on the grid of the city, distorts the glassenclosure representing the citys imposition on the park. The floatingglass roof connects both the glass enclosure and the box unifying them.
