Twitter will attempt to access your E-mail address book to find your friends that are already users. (This will come in especially handy if your students have school e-mail addresses with classmates loaded into their address book. Any people found in the address book of the E-mail system can automatically be “followed” on twitter without having to search for them.)

Twitter will also present a list of celebrities currently tweeting. After you’ve indicated whether or not you want to follow these people (by checking or unchecking their pictures) the process is complete - you are tweeting!

Creating a GroupVisit www.twitter.com .(Now that you’ve registered, upon accessing the site you should arrive at your homepage.)Select “Find People” from the upper right-hand corner of the homepage. Enter a first, last or user name to locate people to follow. (It can be beneficial to have your students use a common name, such as “DuluthHS *FIRST NAME*” for their user ID. Then the teacher can search by “DuluthHS” to return the names of the entire class.)

When you have located the desired people, click the “follow” button to the right of their profile to follow them. Their Tweets will now appear when you access your Twitter homepage.

Upon accessing your Twitter homepage, you will be greeted by a list of the folks that you’ve selected to follow. It should appear similar to the image on the right.

Tweets will appear and disappear as you add and delete people from your “followed” list.

To add people to your homepage, select “find people” from the top of the page.

To remove people, select the “Following” link under your user image. You will be provided a list of all the users you follow. Simply click the “Remove” button to remove them.

Twitterfall.com: An excellent Twitter utility that allows you to view cascading Tweets in real-time as they are posted. You can refine the content of the Tweets you view by entering keywords or geographic parameters. TWTpoll.com: A Twitter utility that allows polling via Tweets. There are many, many more! Twitter is huge! Go out and Google “Twitter” to find utilities that are suited to your needs!
