Charity ShowHelp For Heroes

3rd March

We held our charity show for Help for Heroes on the 3rd

march at the mercure hotel in Nottingham. Dr Agamem-non When was our wonderful mc who did a fantastic job introducing the acts, Julia

was our DJ and we had JoJo on the video camera and Kelly Cross

and Kieron taking photos.

We initially had a target of £620 which is the amount we raised at the last charity event for Clic Sargeant. Through ticket sales, the raffle and selling cakes and brownies, every-one’s hard work and support really paid off with the final total raised to

£1170!!!!

This is such an amazing amount of money and not only smashes

our goal but is almost double the amount!!

100% of the money raised is going to Help For Heroes

http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk

I want to give a huge thank you to everyone who worked so hard on

their routines and took part- we are so unbelievably proud and I know if was a first performance for a for many of you. Thanks toLauren Red who was our guest performer, for

everyone who came to support and who couldn’t be there and donated online or in the tins and for everyone

who helped out in any other way such as counting the money, selling and donating the cakes and other

raffle prizes and setting up and taking down the poles.

For those of you who missed out on taking part this time our next char-

ity event will be on the 6th October. Charity tbc but suggestions welcome

:)

Thank you again for all your support! You can find all of the performance

New Instructor Cat Sambell

Cat first started pole danc-ing in 2007 when a friend of

hers had been to a pole party and suggested to her that she

should give it a go. She has a background in gymnastics

and since pole dancing is quite similar her friend thought she would be well

suited to it and enjoy it.

Her friend wasn’t wrong and Cat found herself addicted to everything pole dance related. She started coming

along to Twisted Pole lessons last year and started instructing in December

2011.

She has PDC approval and is fully In-sured with a first aid certificate so you can be sure you are in safe hands in

her lessons!

Cat is also a driving instructor by day which means that she has plenty of ex-perience teaching, is very patient and her methods are very flexible so she

can adapt to all student learning styles.

“Combine my experience teach-ing with my love of pole dancing and gymnastics you’ll be toning

your musclesand honing your ac-robatic skills all with pointy toes

and smiley faces!! I love to pole and want to share

this amazing experience with everyone; I look forward to

seeing you at class X”

Catch Cat in the following classes that she teaches:

Splits Course with Lauren Red

One of the best ways to improve the way your pole dancing looks and

feels is to increase your flexibility. Not only does an increased flexibility and stretching improve your quality of life, it also reduces the likelihood of injury

and muscle pain due to a fuller range of movement in your joints.

The amazing Lauren Red takes our flex-ibility classes and will introduce you to safe and fun stretching methods and ways to increase your back flexibility

and both front and box splits as well as stretching for other muscles if you have

any requests.

We have splits courses running for 6 weeks at only £40. Our next course

starts Monday 12th march 8pm. Places go fast so book now!

Julia McMurrayHaving tried the usual ‘keep fit’ activities throughout most of my adult life and grown bored of them

within about 3 months, I’d pretty much given up on trying to exercise until a friend suggested I try pole dancing. It wasn’t something I’d ever thought about as exercise, but I thought what the hell, I’ll try it anyway.

I decided on trying Twisted Pole because the studio was in town and I liked the website! I got in con-tact with Hannah and set up a private lesson. I was so scared, but Hannah made me feel totally at ease and so began my love of pole dancing. I remember that for the first couple of lessons I could barely move the day after! Even now, I know it’s been a productive session if I’m aching for a couple of days.

My story is pretty typical of most mothers in their 30’s. After the birth of my daughter I was carrying extra weight and my confidence in my appearance was at a complete low for a long time afterwards. I didn’t even have the motivation to do anything about it until last year (my daughter is 4 now!). Pole slowly gave me the confidence to not only try

new things and really test my body, but also to meet new people – during my time at Twisted Pole I’ve made some amazing friends. Everyone who attends is so supportive of each other and there’s a great social side to being a member of the ‘Twisted Troupe’.

I’ve been poling now for just over a year and I still get a thrill from learning new moves & the bruises which come from them. My favourite moves are fireman stand, bow & arrow, inverted pike and rocket woman. I’m hoping to get my handspring sorted soon and from there who

knows – maybe even phoenix!

I would recommend pole to anyone who wants to try something different in their exercise routine. Every lesson is different and I’ve had the most fun exercising ever.

Amy PearsonI started my pole journey on 29th Decem-ber 2010. During a Christmas visit home some friends of mine asked me if I’d like to join them at a pole class. I went along and was instantly hooked. Coming back to Nottingham I was desperate to find somewhere to continue and I was intro-duced to Twisted.

I remember being nervous at meeting so many new people, but came away happy having learned a couple of new moves. I’ve been training with Hannah for almost a year now, and I couldn’t ask for a better instructor or friend. I feel like I’ve achieved a lot within the past year, and still have so far to go…that’s the beauty of pole, there’s always a new trick to master. I’ve danced in two charity shows, took part in one competition, and feel I’m improving all the time. Going from be-ing unable to hold a prayer slide without

straightening my arms to being able to handspring, the sense of achievement with pole is phenomenal, and being part of a wonderful community full of won-derful people so hooked on the same things, it’s brilliant. I still have a long way to go, but I know I’ll conquer the goals I’ve set myself for this year (I WILL lift into my bloody invert if it kills me). Pole has everything you could want from a hobby…fun, exercise, friends, and I can’t see my journey ending any time soon.

Twisted Trouper of the Month

As a new addition to our magazine we will now be having a Twisted Trouper of the month. This will be a poler who has really excelled and shown great progress throughout the month. Please pass all your suggestions on to us of who you think deserves to be the Twisted Trouper of next month.

As winner of this title the poler will receive a certificate and a Twisted Pole towel.

March 2012JoJo LockeCongratulations to JoJo Locke who is this month’s winner.

JoJo started coming to Twisted Pole last year and had already learnt quite a few different spins and moves. She was keen to learn more and had a goal to be able to do the cross ankle release. After many months of keeping at the same move she finally became brave enough to just go for it and achieved her goal. Ever since this she has been unstoppable! From hand-spring to pike to inverted twisted grip hold she has carried on trying to push herself further and further. Her pole ad-diction is well and truly present as she regularly attends sometimes up to 4 hours in a day of pole!

JoJo also bravely opened our char-ity show despite never having done a pole perfor mance in her life. Well done JoJo we are very proud of you!!
