TWIN PARADOX

TWIN PARADOX

TWIN PARADOX ANIMATIONTHE TWO PROBLEMSThe two twins are of different agesThe twin who went to space ages faster than the twin on the earthViewpoint of travelling twinThe travelling twin feels that his twin(on earth) is aging slower due to his reference frame

TIME DIALATION EXPLAINED

For the moving twin :For the twin on the earth :L is the side & D is the hypotenuseL < DTime observed by travelling twin, t < Time observed by twin on the earth, t Time for the travelling twin passes slower than time for the twin on the earthThe travelling twin ages slower than his counterpart on earthValid only for inertial reference framesAn inertial frame of reference is one in which the motion of a particle not subject to forces is in a straight line at constant speed.

TWIN PARADOX & TIME LINE

5 years outbound

5 years inbound

26 years on earth

Viewpoint of the traveling twinLooks back on earth and it appears to be in motion moving away at the same speed that he is moving relative to the earth. Why cant he invoke the same time dilation logic? Yes, he can. Looks back at earth finds that the earth-bound twin appears to be aging slower! When he returns, he will say that his twin is younger. Which will it be?True paradox. Both cant be younger than the other. Solution the traveling twin must turn around at some point in order to return to the earth. This acceleration invalidates his frame it is not truly an inertial frame (one that moves at a constant speed in a constant direction). Therefore his conclusion is false. He is the younger one.
