GOT FOOD? Today is September’s Brown Bag Sunday. All food donations should be left in the community room. For those wishing to make a monetary donation, checks

should be made payable to Feeding Westchester* and placed in the basket at the altar or given to the volunteer in the community room. Last month you donated 358 pounds of food and $1,224.00. Every $1 collected buys $4 to $7 worth of food. Please check with your employer as they may offer a matching gift program – your donation to Feeding Westchester may qualify. The need is great – but so is the generosity of our parishioners. * Note: Food Bank for Westchester has been re-named Feeding Westchester - only the name is different - the organization, mission and location are still the same.

A free 6 week program, Employment Networking Support Group, is being offered by The RDC Center for Counseling & Human Development. This workshop will offer information about resume Writing, interviewing, using Linked-In and self- assessment. Target audience: all who are underemployed or unemployed. Meetings will be held on Tuesdays: Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 from 6:30-8pm at the White Plains Education & Technology Center located at 303 Quarropas Street, White Plains, 10601. For information or to register please email: [email protected] or call Pat Sheridan at 914-798-1103.

~~~~~~~ Join the 2018 Public Square Rosary Crusade
In The Secret of the Rosary, Saint Louis de Montfort said: “Public prayer is far more powerful than private prayer to appease the anger of God and call down His mercy, and Holy Mother Church, guided by the Holy Ghost has always advocated public prayer in times of public tragedy and suffering.” The Holy Rosary will be prayed aloud at Saint Anthony of Padua Church Plaza, 85 Harrison St. in West Harrison on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 12 noon. Call Ralph at 914-686-5743 for more information.
A PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly
“They came to Capernaum and, once inside the house, he began to ask them, ‘What were you arguing about on the way?’ But they remained silent. They had been discussing among themselves on the way who was the greatest. Then he sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them, ‘If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.’” How can I serve? The path to holiness requires that we humbly reach out to see Christ in the faces of those around us. “In this call to recognize Him in the poor and the suffering, we see revealed the very heart of Christ, His deepest feelings and choices, which every saint seeks to attain.” These are the words of Pope Saint John Paul, as quoted by Pope Francis. These are the demands of Jesus with no ’ifs and buts.’ Holiness cannot be understood or lived apart from these demands, for mercy is ‘the beating heart of the gospel.’ When He washed the feet of the disciples, He spoke by His action, what a true disciple is to do. It is when we serve we receive not only Jesus, but the One who sent Him.
