Dear Friends in Christ,

I welcome you back to the regular season of our operations after the summer season. As we begin, please look in the bulletin (page 4) this weekend for the Annual Financial Report for Fiscal Year 2014-2015. The summary of the revenue and expenses is only meaningful when we consider the life of the parish which your generosity makes possible. Page 5 of this bulletin highlights some of the many ways that the parish benefits from this generosity. As you will notice, the Financial Report on page 4 of this bulletin also details our 2016 budget

In light of our Annual Ministry Fair after all the Masses this weekend, I ask you to prayerfully consider the following three ways that you can put your Faith in Action over the next 12 months.

Stewardship of Time: We have 365 days in a year with 24 hours in each day. Recognizing that God loves us so much, at the barest minimum, we should spare one hour each week at Mass in order to spend time with God and our brothers and sisters. The third commandment asks of us to keep the Sabbath Holy. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC), that is, by attending weekend Mass and avoiding servile or tedious work. At every Mass we raise the cup of salvation to God in response to Psalm 116:12, which says “How can I repay the LORD for all his goodness to me....? The cup of salvation I will raise and call on His name…” In addition to attending Mass, there is need to develop a spiritu-al schedule to spend time with God in prayer on a daily basis. We offer Bible classes, ministries, volunteer opportunities, out-reach to the poor, sick, lonely and needy through Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. Corporal Works of Mercy calls for; feeding the hungry; giving drink to the thirsty; clothing the naked; sheltering the homeless; visiting the sick; and the Spiritual Works of Mercy call us to instruct the ignorant; counsel the doubtful; admonish sinners; bear wrongs pa-tiently; forgive offenses willingly; comfort the afflicted; pray for the living and the dead.

Catholic Education: It is recommended that families who have children in Montini and Marian should volunteer, at the minimum, one hour of their time, each quarter of the school year. This would total four hours for the entire year. The school may have supplemental recommendations.

Stewardship of Talent: Time and talent go hand in hand. Anytime you use talents God has given you, it is going to take time. There are many ways you can use your talents to help in our parish. Look at the new Ministry Pamphlets for more information on how you can use your talents in at least one of our ministries.

Stewardship of Treasure: Thank you for your continuous financial support to the parish towards maintenance, capital campaign and staff salaries among other necessities. Our diocese recommends giving one, four and five percent of in-come in donation to the diocese, charity and one’s parish respectively. My prayer is that God continues to sustain your gifts of love as your means allow. As a suggestion please consider this: Minimum wage in Illinois is $8.25 an hour. A person making minimum wage working a 40 hour week makes $330 per week. That is $1,320 a month and $15,600 a year. If you take 10% of that, it’s about $33 a week. This is just an example; many people belong to different income brackets. The important thing is to consider being a part of this parish family through your time, talents and treasures as well. We invite all our parish families to prayerfully consider giving back to God here in St. Patrick Church. After all is said and done, Faith in Action is not about what we give. What we give is a bi-product of Faith in Action, which is, a grateful response to God for his love and all the blessings He has showered upon us.

The gifts we give serve as offering in gratitude for God’s blessings and love. There are four blocks in our Faith in Action effort. Gratitude that is, knowing that God is the source of all that we have; Responsibility, that is, taking care and the time in order to nurture what we have received from Him; Generosity, that is, sharing what we have received from God and Giving back to God with our generous hearts. I pray you will find this faith family an exciting and inspiring place to put your Faith in Action. On my part, as your Pastor, I promise to offer you my best in time, talents and treasures as I serve you.

I am very grateful to you for your generosity and for putting your Faith into Action through contributions of your Time, Talent and Treasures here at St. Patrick Church.

In Christ.

Fr. Godwin

Youth Ministry For Oktoberfest games we are looking for teens to help out during our annual parish event on September 26th. We’ll be running games in Muldoon Hall from 5-8PM. Teens would be in charge of a station for part or all of that time and help monitor the safety of the kids involved.

Donations for Oktoberfest: Time for some fall cleaning! In con-nection with the Oktoberfest event, the Youth Ministry is in search of prizes for games. If you have new or gently used toys, kids meals toys, wrapped candy, or any other item that you think would be appropriate, please consider donating these items to our prize table. There is a box for donations at the back of the church. Please place items in this bin by the September 26th event. Any questions, please contact Lisa Johnson at 815-347-2583 or [email protected].

Confirmation Registration packets were mailed at the end of August to all registered 8th grad-ers. If you do not receive a packet, please con-tact Lisa Johnson at 815-347-2583 or [email protected] as soon as possible. Parent meetings will be held Tuesday, Sep-tember 15th at 4:45PM and Wednesday, Sep-

tember 16th at 6:00PM in the Parish Library. The meet-ings should last about 45 minutes and each meeting will discuss the same information. Parents of Confirmation students are strongly encouraged to attend on of the two meetings. Please contact Lisa Johnson with any ques-tions.

Please save the date for our next “Ladies Meeting with Fr. Godwin”

Saturday, October 3rd at 5:00PM

Muldoon Hall

At the beginning of the summer, Fr. Godwin with the help of a team of amazing ladies, embarked on a mis-sion to create a NEW Women’s Ministry within the parish. Two brainstorming meetings took place and the third one originally scheduled for September 19th has been rescheduled for October 3rd: Please adjust your calendars!!!

As a reminder: St. Patrick’s New Women’s Ministry

will consist of the following 3 groups:

1. The Ministry of Mothers (meeting on 9-24-15)

2. The “Mid-Ladies” group (name TBD meet on 9-19-15)

3. The Ladies Guild (all 3 groups meet on 10-3-15)

Our goal is to ensure all ladies of the parish are engaged and participate in fellowship within a supportive ministry for women.

Please join us on October 3rd to finalize all the details of this

fantastic New Women’s Ministry. See you there!

Word of Life

“[L]ife on earth … remains a sacred reality entrusted to us, to be preserved with a sense of responsibility and brought to perfection in love and in the gift of ourselves to God and to our brothers and sisters.” ~Pope St. John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae, no. 2 ©1995 Libreria Editrice Vaticana. Used with permission.

St. Patrick’s Church has a ministry to contact, assist and support those in our parish family who have lost a loved one. This month we are offering funeral liturgy pre-planning on Thursday, September 17th. By planning your funeral liturgy, you are both choosing readings that will speak to your family and saving your family from one more decision at a very difficult time. We will be availa-ble starting at 6:30PM in the Parish Library. Please contact Karen Weiderman at 815-403-6249 if you have any questions.

Bereavement Ministry - Funeral Planning

Thank You and Happy Anniversary.

Do you believe that God hears and answers prayers? It is very rare that SVdP is able to fulfill a Friend In Need’s request for a car, but in just one week, two such requests were filled! The first car went to a local man who is employed full-time, but didn’t have

the funds to buy another vehicle when his car died. For this man, receiving a vehicle meant that he could keep his job and his pride. The second car went to a homeless man who was struggling to find a place to live and transporta-tion to his cancer treatments. He is now able to get to his medical appointments and to other services he needs.

Matthew 21:22 “And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

Baptism of Infants: To schedule a Baptism, please begin by calling the parish office. Baptism is celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month immediately after the 11AM Mass. Please consider scheduling your child’s Baptism before your child is born to ensure an opening in the month of your choice. In addition, a Baptismal preparation class is required for the parents. This class is offered on the 1st Sun-day of each month after the 9AM Mass. Sign-up is required and you may take the class before your child is born.

Sacraments

Sacrament of Marriage: At St. Patrick, couples planning to marry need to meet with the Pastor before a wedding date can be set. Please contact the parish office to setup an initial meeting at least 6 months prior to any requested marriage date. This initial meeting will give you an over-view of the requirements for marriage and the preparation required. At least one of the couple, or their parents, must be regis-tered parishioners for at least 6 months and be active participating members of St. Patrick Church in order to be married at the church. Both individuals must be at least 19 years of age.
