Pastor’s Letter October 8/9 Dear Parish Family, One of my favorite fall events is the St. Francis Blessing of the animals. It’s fun. It’s great to see all the loved pets brought by our parishioners for blessing. It is wonderful to see how the blessing seems to lift everyone’s spirits. This blessing is also about faith and how Christians see the created world in which we live. The great insight of St. Francis of Assisi is that the created world—the sun, moon, starts, sky, plants, animals — is both a reflection of God and a connection to God. In the beauty of creation we see the beauty of God. In the simple, uncomplicated affection of our pets we see the simplicity of our own relationship to God. For St. Francis, it is almost impossible to walk through the world and not know the closeness of God. It is easy for us to lose sight of this simple truth. To see the world as only something to be used or to walk through the world ignorant of its beauty is to miss something of God. It is even more tragic when we walk through the world not seeing the beauty of people! Taking people for granted and not seeing their beauty and uniqueness. This of course is the evil of hatred and prejudice. So I hope you enjoy these few pictures of a day of blessing!

Our Lady of the Hamptons
The boys’ Cross-Country team of OLH continued its
domination of the Catholic Middle Schools Association. Prep 6 James
Conigliaro took first place in the St. Anthony’s Invitational Meet, his fourth

Enter the Holy Door of Mercy Sacred Hearts has been chosen as one of four churches in the Diocese of
Rockville Centre to have a Holy
Door of Mercy through which
pilgrims may obtain the same
blessings as if they were to visit
the jubilee door at St. Peter’s
Basilica in Rome.
One may walk through this door
at any time but during this Holy
Year of Mercy we will celebrate Eucharistic Adoration on
Thursday from the conclusion of the noon mass until
Benediction at 4:00 PM. We will also have confessions
during this time and our Spanish community will pray the
Chaplet of Divine Mercy from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. We
call Parishioners who support this time of prayer our
Anchors of Mercy. If you are willing to join them please
just come any Thursday during those hours.
Faith and Justice
We’re living in a country and world plagued by conflicts of many types; yet, our Savior and our Pope call us to be
peacemakers. Pax Christi Metro New York (PCMNY) exists for that very purpose—to help us all learn and practice the
ways of peace. Join PCMNY at our annual Fall Assembly where we pray together, share our stories, and lend each other
support. We also host a noteworthy speaker. This year Kevin Ahern, Director of Peace Studies at Manhattan College, will
be speaking on the theme of Responding to the Spirit: Pope Francis and The Future of the Catholic Peace Movement.
Come for the whole day or just the afternoon. Register for this October 22nd event on the Manhattan College campus by
contacting us at [email protected] or 212-420-0250, or by visiting www.nypaxchristi.org/events.html or
https://www.nycharities.org/events/EventLevels.aspx?ETID=9336. Deadline to register is October
14th. We hope to see you there.

The Respect Life Ministry seeks to remind everyone of the sacredness of human life. While emphasizing the need to promote recogni on and respect for the new life of a pre-born baby, we seek to promote the dignity of human life at all ages, regardless of the presence of illness or disability.
40 DAYS FOR LIFE HAS BEGUN -- September 28 through November 6th. Launched in 2007, 40 days for life has become one of the largest Pro-Life efforts, with tens of thousands participating worldwide. In an attempt to address the over one-million abortions per year in our nation alone, this period of prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigils at abortion centers, gives each of us a chance to contribute. Please participate in whatever way you can to promote respect for the new life of the unborn. For more information go to www.40daysforlife.com.
